I think it would be unlikely to be any diabetes complications (like nerve damage) so soon following diagnosis. It may be a fungus infection due to sugars running high. I tend to get atheletes foot when my sugars run high, and not just between my toes, but the soles of my feet too. It can itch like hell. Are there any wee blisters or crusted skin? Might be worth trying some cream and extra ventilation. Alternatively there are loads of allergies, sensitivities and dermatitis that can make feet itch. We all think every ailment is diabetes related, don't fall into that trap. If it keeps up speak to your GP. I have psoriaisis (hence the flakey bake name - sorry grim), ezcema and reactive dermatisis on top of fungal infections so I feel your itchy pain.
