I have now been late onset T1 since a proper, realistic, diagnoses end Oct 2013.
Weekly contact with my DNS by email as I record my BGs in XL, email,it over on a Sunday night with a commentary on spikes etc. On a Monday I receive an email with suggested change in dose for the Humalogmix25 for the coming week. It works very well indeed. No change in dose for the last two weeks as levels have dropped quite dramatically, with 7 day, 14 day and 30 day averages now all below 7.9. There is some work to be done on spikes and their causes and one I have found is bread, both Burgen and Vogel which both cause spikes well over 10. Sausages too are guilty although the one I have been eating are only 75% meat. Where do people buy those that are 97% meat.? The only ones I have found are frankfurters which are solid meat but not so flavoursome to me.
LCHF for the past 3 months is working for me as I am feeling so much brighter and more "with it" after the progress of the last months.
What has helped, immensely, has been the regular contact and support with/ of a good DNS (Diabetic Nurse Specialist she is) and holds clinics in our local major hospital. What has also helped ME has been the forum members, advice, prompts, recommendations warmly given in this forum, for which you all have my sincere deepest thanks.

Sounds like you have a great DSN there Alan. The high meat content sausages can be found in the likes of Asda & Morrisons, Debbie & Andrews is one brand and The Black Farmer another.

I normally go for Paul Rankin sausages which I get from Waitrose. They have a very high meat content. I also buy German style rye bread from Marks & Spencer. I highly recommend both.

The fact that you spike so high after eating bread may mean that you are gluten intolerant. It's possible to be gluten intolerant without testing positive for coeliac and gluten is often implicated in autoimmune diseases. Have you ever tried going gluten free?

We get the Harrogate sausages too!

And well done. It sounds like you have good support, and this forum is great, but it is also down to your hard work.

I had another waitrose one, Smithfield soemthing or other, with nutmeg, very tasty and high meat content.

Look for bratwurst as well, if made with a traditional recipe should also be good.

Thx Indy - had thought of that but didn't want to be greedy in my accumulation of autoimmune issues. Will try a few days with gluten free and see how my levels are. This is such a minefield you know, where would a newbie (like me) be without the experiential knowledge of folk in this forum.
