Forum newbie T1 24w twins

Congratulations!

I'm expecting but won't know for another 2 weeks whether it's twins again. My last pg was dcda twins and they are nos 2 and 3 in my family. I also had an emcs with my first for failed induction but the twins were vbac. The twins were also premature and born at 33+4 but I think that was brought on my moving house. Thankfully apart from general prematurity issues (needed help growing and keeping warm) they were generally ok although we had to stay in scbu for a while. All of mine have had slightly low blood sugar but were just treated with a bit of formula and were ok within 24 hours. 2 out of 3 were with me from the start and the only one who wasn't was put in scbu for being under 4lbs.I bf all although not exclusively for the twins.

My twins are now nearly 4 so it's all a slightly distant memory but good luck and I hope it goes well.

I'm also 35 and have had type 1 since I was 3. I've just started on the pump about a week ago as this pregnancy was unexpected and I asked for it to see if it would make it more manageable. Not convinced yet but it's early days.

Hi, I managed to more or less get my rates sorted after 3 weeks (now on week 4) and yes the nights are much much better. Not tempting fate but this is my first pregnancy where I haven't had a coma in the first trimester and I think this is probably due to a combination of the better night control and running my sugars a bit higher. Unfortunately I'm having a lot of trouble with infusion sets which is really making the whole thing quite stressful.

I have discovered there's only 1 in there this time which is a bit of a relief. Twins are amazing but one set is enough.......

I was curious about your infusion set trouble too. I'm changing about every 2 days, sometimes more, but the biggest issue I'm having is bleeding sites - often I don't realize I've got a bad site until 2 hours after I've changed it as I creep up to the mid-teens. Feels pretty much fine going in. I saw a couple of posts a few years old on other message boards with people experiencing it too. Even sites I've barely used or ones that have always been reliable will often be bleeding when I pull the set out, which for me usually means the insulin hasn't been absorbing properly.

I'm on a minimed paradigm and I use 6mm quicksets.

No experience of twins, but on the bleeding sites, could it be down to taking aspirin? I was prescribed low dose aspirin for the first part of my pregnancy, so was just wondering if you had been, too, and if it might be the reason.

I found I was changing sites all the time due to high insulin and my skin seemed much more sensitive during pregnancy - more likely to get marks afterwards, and I would get dry patches after taking off the adhesive (which I never normally do). Bio Oil seemed to help!

I'm not on the twin train either, but the asprin may be the case. I started taking it about a month ago on the advice of my high risk obgyn. I expected my rates would have increased more by now - my evening ones have started to go up, but in the past week I've started having 2-3 lows around 2-4AM and had to reduce my rates quite a bit. 2 days is my absolute max with sites right now, so I don't know if it's really because of increased insulin or just because of the fun stuff the body likes to pull while pregnant.

I have a long thread going on the pump forum about all my infusion set issues! To summarise I've tried every minimed set now except for the mio (can't see the point as it's just a already plugged in quickset). I've just decided to stop using my stomach as I had really haywire readings over the last 2 days and want to rule out site issues and work out if it's just pregnancy fluctuations. I t currently have a sure-t 6mm in my thigh and so far it feels ok and is sort of working although I've been stuck on 11.9 for most of the morning. I'm basal testing the 12-6 stretch today and will basal test the 6-12 stretch tomorrow. I hate basal testing!!! Then I'm going to adjust carb ratios and see if that does anything. At the moment I feel like I'd have better control if I switched back to syringes but have to remind myself this is the first time I've got through a pg without any nightime comas in the first trimester which is a huge relief.

Yes I'm taking aspirin since 8 weeks (also recommendation of ob/gyn) but my site issues have been more not working cannulas, pain and marks rather than bleeding.

@1Sarah1 - sorry for the basic question but why do you have to change your sets every day if you're changing the rate?
