No that was just taken without fasting. That day I had had a bowl of special k for breakfast. Today's test they did I had not eaten anthing since the night before but he didn't know that. Jut asked for an immediate test to check it againWas this a fasting blood test, or just taken without fasting? It does make a difference.
I can't thank you enough for your advice. The neuropathy I've experienced has scared the life out of me and I am determined to get healthy. I'll come back monday and let you know how I get on in this diabetes clinic. Please don't be afraid of fat! Many low fat foods have sugar added to make them taste nicer. The real things are better for you - butter, cheese, yogurts, mayonnaise etc. Boiled eggs are a good idea for breakfast. Have 2, but no bread unless you can find some Burgen or LivLife (this is only sold in Waitrose) or some very heavily seeded wholemeal, and only have 1 slice with lots of butter on. The butter and eggs will fill you up and stop you being hungry before lunch time. Milk is full of lactose, which is sugar! You can buy lactose free milk.
Thanks, I'm a useless cook but I guess I'm gonna have to learn now lol. Thanks for all your help I do appreciate it. Do you think they may give me a testing kit on monday? Or should I buy myself one?Personally I wouldn't buy it. It is quite starchy (starch isn't good). Have you thought of making your own soups, then you know exactly what is in them. I don't know why I'm saying that because I've never made one! There is a thread entitled What have you eaten today that may give you some ideas. It is best to avoid tinned soups and go for homemade. Tonight I'm having tinned red salmon, cherry toms, cheese, spring onion and real mayo with 1 slice of bread. I had a fry up at lunch time. You can have berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) with either plain yogurt or cream as a dessert. With other fruits you need to be careful. if you buy a home monitoring meter you will be able to learn which foods you can and can't have. It is all trial and error and our metabolisms are all different.
