Hi all, well today i got 2 positive test results, still slightly freaking out about it (as the title suggests!).

Know the first thing i need to do is go to my GP and get it confirmed, due to see my endo on 4th Jan so thinking that should be ok (only saw her earlier on in the week but didn't know then - typical).

Really worried about my other conditions too and if it will just all be too much and i will end up mis-carrying. It's strange i don't feel the way i thought i would, i feel more panic stricken than happy

Congratulations! What a great Xmas present. I can imagine but you've been planning this for a while. I bet a lot of non T1 women feel the same regarding miscarriage. If your anything like me, I often think about the worst possible outcome. Not because I'm a pessimist (heaven knows if I was I'd killed myself by now) but as a means of kind of protecting myself? I'm sure once you see your GP you'll feel better. For now try and enjoy the feeling. Remember this is your dream. Yes there is still along way but look how far you have come. Good luck and keep us posted! X

Congratulations @Lozj82

As Amy has said, everyone worries and imagines the worst (me included) but try to keep calm as stressing won't help you - or your bg's, test as often as you can so you know you are within range xx

@Amy.W not for too long, my last hb1c was 7.1% and dr said she would like it a little lower, i decided to have my implant out anyway and thought it would take a lot longer than 1 month to get pregnant so was still quite a shock. Saw my GP this morning who didn't really say much, just gave me a form for a blood test to confirm so going to have that in the morning, if that is positive then i will ring up bupa for me to see a specialist who speaks English (currently living in Italy due to husbands work).

Thanks @Mrsass blood sugars have been good so far today, apart from a 9.8 after breakfast (need to pre-bolus more!) not been above 7 so pleased with that

Hi @Lozj82. Congratulations!

I'm in a similar position. My hba1c was 7.2 and decided to start trying anyway as figured it would take a while... We conceived 2nd month we tried so I'm still in shock after receiving a positive result on 23rd December. I have an appointment with my GP on 29th to get referred to a pregnancy pump specialist.

I'm panicking because I got a cold the day I found out and my BG has been all over the place. I know how important it is to keep BG down at this time so am stressing about it a bit.

My nurse told me to be 4-5.5 pre-meal and below 7.8 one hour after meals but if I'm 7.8 one hour after a meal, I'm likely
to hypo in the next 2-3 hours!

A lot of work to do! Good luck!

Hi @Bizzy-Bee

Nice to hear i'm not alone in this situation :) I sure expected it to take longer than 1 month lol. My sugars have not been too bad over the Christmas period (a couple of 10's - oops) but mainly lows.

Are you going on a pump for the pregnancy then? i'm seeing my diabetic dr on the 4th so will see what she has to say (i will probably get a telling off lol).

Sure is a lot of work and i am so paranoid about a miscarriage as i have lupus, sjogrens, epilepsy and hypothyroidism.

Good luck at your appointment and keep us updated :)

@Lozj82 - I'm already on a pump which I absolutely love. Went on it about 18 months ago as get bad dawn phenomenon. I used to go to bed at 7mmol and wake up at 17! Now I wake up about 5-6!

My trouble is the 1 hour post-meal. It shoots up to about 12. If I hit the target of about 7 then I'll be having a hypo within the next 2-3 hours! So confusing!

I'm paranoid too but trying not to be as I'm sure stress makes the whole thing worse!

Let's both keep everything crossed! Keep us updated too! It's really nice to know there are others in the same position! I'm going to look into any pregnancy groups for diabetics around London once I'm a bit further along...

@Bizzy-Bee You may want to consider having your bolus more in advance of your meal. That can help control the spike. Move it gradually and test often. Many people find that can help :)

Hi @Lozj82! How is it all going? I'm struggling with post-meal hypos but we seem to be on the same hba1c track - mine is down to 6.4% also which I'm so pleased with. I'm on the Dexcom and an omnipod and it's really helping. Fingers crossed we can keep up the good work! x x

Hi @Bizzy-Bee , i am now on the dexcom and started on the pump but i only lasted 2 days as was going away and kept having really bad highs, turns out the cannula kept bending so i am back there on Wednesday to hopefully try again with some other type of insertion set so i actually get insulin. I was terrible for those 2 days, panicking because all i could see on the dexcom was my sugar increasing so went back to MDI whilst i was away. Dont think i will see an improvement on my hba1c this time due to that! But you never know, what with the dexcom, i have been able to stop quite a few highs, fingers crossed!

Hope all is still going well for you xx

Hi @Amy.W I did buy the libre but never got to try it as the hospital here in Italy gave me a pump combined with the dexcom so not having to pay for it at the moment so cant help there I'm afraid.

See your Hba1c has come down, well done, its a step in the right direction

It was 7.1% but it could have been lower than that as that was in June and we fell pregnant in the November

Hi @Amy.W. I had to pay for the Dexcom myself as couldn't get one on the nhs. I spent about £1700 for the transmitter, receiver and 6 months' worth of sensors. It is expensive but I feel it's been worth it as it beeps in the night if I got above or below the target I set. It means I wake up earlier with a hypo than I would naturally so don't feel as bad from a night hypo. Also helps control the highs as you can see when you're increasing rapidly.

I know someone on the libre. It looked good and it's definitely cheaper but I think you have to scan it to get a reading so it would f be able to warn you of highs and lows when you're sleeping for example.

@Lozj82 - have you considered the omnipod? It's a wireless pump so you just wear the insulin on your body and no need for wires and trying to find somewhere to clip the insulin and monitor to. I just keep the monitor in my back and it all works wirelessly. Just a thought...

The guilt with highs is crazy, isn't it. I had a night last week where I had messed up my insulin amount and the BG just kept increasing. I got so upset as all I could think about what the harm I was causing to my baby. I know it's irrational but I felt so guilty!

I have my first scan next Monday! So exciting and terrifying at the same time! x

I have had about 3 scans so far (including 1 today) and all is looking good thanks goodness!

I wasnt offered the omni pod and seeing as though i get the dexcom provided if i have the animas vibe thought it would be best to go with that.

Thanks @Cashmere
