Gastric bypass patient

Slow drivers, blood tests, having to go to hospital
I had a gastric bypass in January and have lost 5 1/2 stone so far. I tried all sorts of diets before but never managed to lose that amount of weight and keep it off. I was told that it could potentially resolve my diabetes and other people that have had the op have said they've stopped their diabetes meds (although only 1 of them was on insulin like me). At my last 2 visits to my consultant my HbA1C was 64 both times even though I lost weight during this time. My consultant has said maybe I've knackered my pancreas and I'll need to stay on insulin and last night at the support group someone suggested that because I've had diabetes for 9 years rather than just a couple that might explain why my diabetes isn't doing what I want it to.
Any thoughts would be welcome, thanks.
