This week wasn't a good one. Lots of problems with work, kids, husbands business... just a hard week. I gave up trying to low carb and check pre and post meals ... and I ate macaroni cheese!!! A childhood comfort when things are going down the drain. As I deserved, my lovely controlled bloods (never above 8 and usually between 4 and 8) have been resting between 8 and 12.

I know it's just a case of get back on that horse and try again but I have couple of questions:

Will my few days of stupidity make a difference in the long run, is an odd blip fatal?
How do you calculate corrective bolus dose if you've already given what you thought was right?
After requesting a DAFNE course from the GP, what should happen next?

Oh...and hba1c result this week was 5.9 before I got distracted by life!

Well done on the Hba1c result!

1) No it won't make any difference in the long-term.

2) Look back where you might have gone wrong, perhaps you miscalculated the carb content or your insulin ratio needs increasing.

3) You should here from your diabetes clinic when a date is available for you to join the course, waiting times can be quite long so do keep this in mind, some areas don't run DAFNE but I expect you have already check this first or your gp did.

Hi

I would'nt worry we all have our bad days/weeks, just a few days will not cause no long term complications its when you neglect yourself for years thats when its gonna cause problems, i've heard of people not bothering doing BM testing and even missing injections and i don't know how they are still alive. I new of a 18 year old (friends son) his a type 1 and he was constantly running highs and missed injections drinks, eats cakes and chocolate and all that then one day he never bothered injecting went out had a macdonalds and a large coke (not diet) and by that night was in hospital doctors told him if he had been left another hour that would have been the end. He was back to normal after a few days but never learnt his lesson and i don't know if this was due to his neglect he then developed epilepsy as well.

So don't worry to much you will be fine.
