For the first time since going on gliclazide, I'm off to a wedding tonight and I plan on having a few beers. I know that gliclazide and alcohol can cause hypos - should I skip tonight's dose?

Any advice?

I took my prescribed dose with my evening meal, then went out and got drunk. I checked my levels before bed and I was sitting happy at 6. Next morning I had the worst hangover since I can't remember! Still feeling it today. Not sure if it may be related to the gliclazide or just my advancing years.

Wonder how many people do drink with gliclizide the dr told me not to, but I normally have half a bottle on wine on Sunday evening with my mothering law but stopped doing this.

I dont get drunk any more either,,,,,,,,,At the age of 77 already been there albeit a long time a go.
I have had type 2 Diabetes since I was 30.....I think I must have been on every type of "tablets"
ever produced at one time or another but I was put onto Gliclizide 3 months ago as Metformin
had started to affect my kidneys.......I have not changed my routine concerning having a drink
which is ....a glass of "decent " Red wine with my evening meal about 9-9.30 pm except on a
Thursday when its out with more of the Aged for (no apology) Quiz Night.when I have one pint
of Lager followed by a Bottle of San Miguel........then I eat a full meal eventually finishing with a
coffee and a Brandy.
My Diabetic Nurse is fully aware of my habits and the strange thing is when I take my morning
reading on the Friday its sometimes better than it is usually.(She checks the meter readings on
regular basis so I cant cheat.
So my personal advice is the old cliché...."every thing in moderation" followed by " a little bit of
what you fancy does you good"............Works for me.
Just as a follow up ...my original Doctor told me as long as you blood sugar reading is less than
10....no worries. What do you think Right or Wrong......Im still here!

Mike 47 years of type 2 wow... Is it just tablets you take now? and since you say kidneys I was diagnosed at 30 to, and Metformin just recently put up to 4 met a day and 2 gliclizide (alongside omeprazole for something else) and I told my dad they put me on gliclizide and his response was you do not want to be on them as they wreck your kidneys... So no idea what to think.

I am awaiting a specialist appointment from my doctors now as the dr wants to see if they will do more tests as I have a lot of family members who are diabetic.

But I do like the a little bit of what you fancy every so often and moderation.

According to most web sites only those with an existing kidney problem may be affected by Gliclazide.
My dosage is 3x 2 gram tablets a day at 0930...1530 and 2130 hrs.
I also take 1.25 mgs of Ramipril Tevagen at 0930 am....it is actually used for lowering blood pressure
but I take it as it also livens up "Lazy Kidneys" of which I have one apparently. My blood pressure is now
checked once a month......been on this for only 2 months but so far so good.
I hope your appointment goes well......as the song says "Things can only get Better"
Good Luck.
