GOOD TIME FOR A FOLLOW-UP HbA1c Check?

I was diagnosed as prediabetic about 4 months ago, with an HbA1c level of 45.

Since then, I have been on a low-carb diet, gradually reducing to around 100 g of carbs per day.

Weight loss over the same period is some 8.5 kg, with a current BMI of 22.3. I thought that this would be enough, but it seems that I need to lose a little more to further trim my waistline.

I don't do any kind of glucose monitoring, preferring to wait until I've stabilised my weight & diet. I'm not due for another HbA1c check from my GP for some 6 - 9 months, but am interested in seeing what progress I've made, if any.

What do you think would be a suitable interval between my last check & my next check?

Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
Minimum interval is 3 months because that is how long it usually takes to completely replace all the red blood cells.
At the discretion of your surgery.

As you are newly diagnosed you could ask for another test at 6 months on from your last one, they may say no but I can request 6 monthly ones at my GP though the standard is 12 months

NICE guidelines say 6 monthly HbA1cs for type 2s but most surgeries do yearly. Not sure what the guidelines are for pre diabetes , but i think to request one after 6 months seems reasonable to me.

Yes, I was thinking 3 months minimum for that reason, but not sure how much longer to leave it. I'm thinking that the longer I leave it (within reason), the better the result is likely to be, assuming that I keep on with what I'm doing. Would be disappointed if there hasn't been much change.

Yes, I might try for 6 months as this would hopefully be sufficient time to make a noticeable difference. Not sure if my GP would go for it, but I can always ask. I suppose that there is always the option to get this done privately.

Yes, I agree, as posted above.
