I’ve read horror stories on here BUT have to say although my GO wasn’t particularly interested 8 months ago on my diagnosis I now have a fantastic nurse.

My last HbA1c was in the “normal range” as were my other blood tests and as far as she is concerned as long “as my diet is doing the job “ and it lost me 4 stone she is quite happy.

Answered all my queries and said it looked as if I knew what I was doing but to ask if I had any problems - did not decry the lchf diet at all. Whatever works use!

I have always taken the view that GP's do their best in very difficult circumstances. In England they are limited to 10 minutes with each patient. As a result, they are always rushed and it is difficult to discuss a diagnosis of something as complex as T2 diabetes adequately in 10 minutes. What I can't understand is why NHS nurses who have chosen to specialise in diabetes often seem to be ill-informed and blinkered in their thinking. Mine gave me lots of time at my first appointment post diagnisis, but she was very sceptical when I told her I was following a LCHF diet and warned me that I may be damaging my health further. My follow-up HBA1C result was down from 53 to 42. She congratulated me, but accredited the fall to weight loss rather than diet. She still thinks the high fat intake is dangerous and has ordered a colesterol test for me. The medical profession seem determined to blame fat intake for everything. When will they realise that it isn't eating fat that kills you; it's being fat that is the problem.

My GP is brilliant I never feel rushed, we have a good two way conversation at each appointment. The down side is that unless I get the first appointment in the morning, I know he’ll be running late for my appointment! Still I expect it now and appreciate his attention when it’s my turn.

Back in the late 50's the medical profession thought they had found the answer to heart disease (thanks to Ancel Keys). I don't think they want to admit that they were wrong and the low fat, higher carb thing has been taught for years. Assuming you can call the training medics get adequate for giving dietary advice.
