Greedy feeling - Covid will be gone but we'll still have our diabetes

It's wrong I know but the day is coming & it will soon be party season.
The rest of humanity will move on post vaccination but behind it all is our group, who still have to manage a heath threat on a daily basis.
I know it's single minded & selfish . . . just wish I could move on to.

I felt like that for years when I had ME. Everyone else was getting on with their lives yet I couldn't.

Maybe it will help other people empathise a bit more with those living with LTC’s.

I was always supportive & considerate of my mum’s MS but I never truly understood what she had/ is going through until I was diagnosed T1.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t apprehensive about normal life opening up again. It’s an all new ball game learning to live with diabetes in the ‘real’ world.

I must say it's been quite relief over the last year to be able to avoid the eye rolling or well meant but completely useless advice of friends & family when I refuse a bit of cake or don't have the chips!

I was diagnosed over lockdown so the thought of life being normal again makes me quite nervous. I've done really well to control my levels and eating well but I think it will be harder when I'm socialising again, eating in restaurants, holidays etc

We will be joined by the large number of people with 'long covid' (for most this sounds like Chronic fatigue syndrome, but some have obvious organ damage too) - I wonder if the world will be better at dealing with long term illnesses then?

What is it you fear once lock down is over? I personally can’t wait for everything to open up again and I will burn my ****** mask!!

I think it can be more difficult to make the good choice for you when you're in restaurants or on holiday.
However on the plus side, your insulin sensitivity might improve because doing those things means you're more active, & when (if you're like me anyway) your anxiety at a simple shopping trip goes away your stress hormones will be lowered (which seems to also have an affect on insulin sensitivity)

When you’ve only been diagnosed during covid and sat at home for a year it’s easy to control your environment. I know when the kids go back to school next week I’m going to need to adjust for the extra exercise / different stressors. Factor in going back to work & travelling for meetings, it’s a new ball game & inevitably more variation in diabetes control.

Covid-19 may be over, or at least containable, soon.

My diabetes won't. Managing it is lifelong.

The above is what I take @Ronancastled to mean also.

I will continue to use my mask if I am unwell or during flu season, as it protects me and others from germs. I don't think the annual deaths from respatory illness every year is acceptable, and is mainly avoidable through mask wearing, as in other cultures.

Having diabetes for 40 years now I realise I have it for life and have accepted it , it is a really difficult disease to have , but definitely manageable. There are people with far worse things in this world . As far as COVID is concerned I don’t think it will ever be gone ! It will be like the flu , we will just learn to live with it and accept that people will still die from it let’s face it an average of 11,000 people die of the flu every year and we have a jab for that .
