Had my first diabetic care call the other day and I was sure he said for me to have 19g of sugar per meal! So today I tried very hard but hit 67g grams over 3 meals - I thought I’d done well until - I read an article on everyday health that says it recommends 22g per day for women & 36g for men???!!!
Did diabetic call mean 19g per day because I’ve really wrecked the day haven’t I?
Any advice please

Goodness! How awful that a diabetes-careworker is recommending such high amounts of sugar! But they meant glucose-causing food? (ie carbs, without actually saying it? Not just added sugar?). As I say as philosophically as I can when hearing these stories - we live in interesting times indeed (certainly as people with dysregulated blood glucose, and the weird and wonderful food recommendations from health authorities.)

I was looking at your name @glucogirl6499, and thinking that a better one for you might be "Glu Go Girl" - as in get that glucose well away! :). (Or as much as you can or stand right now being newly diagnosed.) And - good on you for it!

On a previous thread you said she recommended 19g carbs per meal. There is a big difference between sugar and carbs!
Can you clarify what you actually mean? They are not the same thing.

Thank you and I'm glad I've been doing my own research and asking the forum otherwise I'd be continuing to be OTT!! Well tomorrow is a new day - keep up the good work advising us newcomers

None of us can be sure of what you heard so you probably need to clarify this at some point. I'm confused was it carbs or sugar? I find it essential to avoid sugar as much as poosible.

Carb levels are personal to each of us and our circumstances. We have a wide range of levels around the forum and finding out what works for you and it sustainable in the long term is important. I will go as low as I need to get reasonable results on my meter and feel ok. Today it has been 75g but mostly I am around 100g.

Some people with pre d thrive on keto diet around 25g others not so much. I found it easier using a meter to work out what I could tolerate and when.

I was convinced it was 19g of sugar but maybe carbs ( think I fixated on the number and that they said per meal)
I'll try to get back in touch but they book 1-2monthly appointments where they call me!!!
Thanks for your advice

anyhealth worker telling a diabetic to eat extra sugar needs sacking. a 19carb meal is not too bad. if you did that you should get decent blood results. but not sugar.

By what you write I’ve misunderstood and your comment is a great help thanks
