Hi all
I was wondering if anyone can help out on a question. Firstly, just to explain I was diagnosed with T2 in December of 2020 and have been on Metformin since. Though lifestyle changes I managed to get HbA1c down to 40 by March of this year. My latest HbA1c last week shows a result of 38. I am off the understanding that the risk of hypos need to be ruled out when it’s 38 or below. Can anyone advise if this is correct and if so how do you rule it out if you like me don’t have any symptoms of hypo. My practice nurse does not know although has advised to half the metformin dosage for next 3 months and rescue following a further test for HbA1c.

as a type 2, you shouldnt be at any risk of a hypo, as our bodies kick in with what we need. Your HbA1c is an average over 3 months. Are you getting lower blood readings when you test?

You are averaging around 6.5, which is still higher than normal. To be having hypos you would be around 30 or less, even then, as a type 2, your liver will compensate and you wont get the dangerous hypo that a T1 gets.
