HBA1C results - not great

Hi everyone,

I'm T2, went for blood tests yesterday to see how things are going, results showing today on the my diabetes my way site as HBA1C of 69, that's up from 64 from last February. Not a good result, honestly not as bad as I was expecting because I had a horrendous year last year and I'm now trying to get back on track.
Doesn't look as though they've tested for anything else, I had to speak to a nurse practioner on Monday as I've had some sort of a UTI for a few weeks and it was starting to concern me, especially if there was any chance it could be my kidneys. She gave me a 3 day course of antibiotics and referred me for the blood tests. I had asked her for the full MOT as that's what I was told by GP I required last summer, couldn't go then due to severe back pain, they haven't even checked my cholesterol this time, haven't checked anything to do with the kidneys (Creatinine, eGFR), I also had to take a urine sample, sorry if this is a silly question but are they checked from that?
Just can't understand why they wouldn't check the kidney function. I'm back to see DN next Monday so will likely have to discuss it with her and more than likely have more bloods done. Sometimes I'm just failing to understand why these things can't be done properly in the first place, really just wastes everyone's time with more appt's. Sorry in a bit of rant mode because I'd asked specifically for these to be checked and once again just ignored.
Anyway, hopefully the appt with DN will go well, I'm going to ask for Rybelsus to help me shift some of the excess weight and help these numbers come down, will keep you posted how I get one with that. Thanks.

Hi Maggie,

No such thing as a silly question, and no, they can't get creatinine and eGFR from a urine sample. Kidney function testing requires urine AND blood tests in tandem, so I'm guessing if the urine was flying solo, as blood was HbA1c-only, they didn't test it for more than (maybe glucose, and) bacteria because of the persistent UTI. I agree, things could be done more efficiently, as a MOT was requested and you were even told to get one, so... I'm sorry you're getting to go the long way around on this one. :(

I hope you get some answers soon. Good luck on Monday!
Jo
