Do high bloodsugars correlate with heart problems? e.g. high bp, cardiovascular disease... anything really?

Since having better control, my blood pressure has decreased and I'm wondering if the two correlate or if it's to do with a healthier lifestyle.

A consultant told me the other week that hypos can cause heart disease because you're heart beat is irregular when you have them (personally, I'm not sure how true it is) a lot of members on the forum said he was talking out of his bum.
Diabetics are at risk of heart problems so if you've managed to lower your blood pressure by having better control then stick at it! It may be a combination of that and your healthier life style.

Either way, it can only be a good thing!
