My daughter is 21 weeks pregnant and has been feeling unwell.

I just tested her blood she was 16.3 and 30 mins later 13.9.

Any advice would be great.

(Im a quite newly diagnoses type 1 - still learning)

Thanks

Dislikes
People who are touchy.......feign indignation at the slightest thing. Hypocrites, bullies and cowards.
My advice would be to discuss this with her GP and if she has one, her Diabetic Nurse. The numbers are high and need investigating. Gestational is a specialist area.

We used to have a midwife on here who could have advised better but I think she has moved on to pastures new so I am afraid we don't have much knowledge we can impart. Sorry. :(

Maybe there will be some ladies with experience of this along later, I hope so.

Type of diabetes
Treatment type
Tablets (oral)
I'm still here Ken, just a bit quiet these days.

She needs a referral to the combined endo/obstetric clinic at her hospital. At 21 weeks, she would probably have not seen her Midwife very often so would not have had her wee dipped for glycosuria.
Depending on how your trust is set up you can either ask to see your named Midwife or GP for referral or contact the hospital and ask for an appointment. All the contact numbers are in her hand held notes. If unwell, phone the hospital and get seen there. Don't take no for an answer, the sooner she is seen the better. It could be a one-off event that means nothing, but better to know that to develop problems.

Good luck and let us know how she gets on.

Thanks for your help, she is in hospital now and waiting for GTT results, she had sugar +++ in urine last night.

Her blood sugars are more normal again this morning around 8 - time will tell!

Thanks again

Sorry didn't see this until today..

How did your daughter get with her GTT (not nice at the best of times, but when pregnangt even worse)

At 21 weeks she still got a way to go until baby is born, depending on the GTT results, it may well be that she's got to keep a very tight diet avoiding all the high impact sugars, and also limited carb intake per meal to avoid high spiking of her sugar levels, but the GTT test will show the reaction of sugar on her system... They may decided to introduce insulin in some form to help reduce spiking and keep the bg tightly controlled...

What ever they decide is the best ward forward for your daughter and baby, they will keep a very close eye on her from now on, tight eye on her blood glucose levels, and also they tend to implement a lot more scaning, to monitor the babies growth rate... They may well decide to induce the baby just before she reaches full term they do look at everything before deciding if and when to do this though...

Policy used to be that babies were taken to SCUBU for monitoring, and to be weened of mums insulin, not sure what the procedure is now, as my 2 were born at the beging of the 90's so this may well of changed..

If your daughter does end up using insulin, She does still stand a good chance of being able to stop using it after her baby is born, also she may well revert back to normal non-diabetic status, but will maintain an higher risk of becoming T2 at some stage of her life...
