Hello there, I have a problem, could I ask for your help!! I'm a 20 years old girl and I just fell completely for an amazing man of 30 who's a type 1 diabetic. I am aware it is a complicated situation but I also know this won't stop me at all from starting a serious relation with him. I have been gathering information for quite a while but there are some points which I can't find explained clearly anywhere.

We didn't have sex yet and to be fair I am a bit scared. Could anything go wrong? Could he go hypo? And if yes, what should I do if it happens?? i'm sorry for my naive questions but I really do not know where or how to start understanding... thanks for your help,
cicily

Go ahead if it's right for you.T1 is on insulin, so might need a digestive bisuit.
Don't get so wound up in worrying about your boyfirend that you forget to use contraception and anti infection precautions :?

Ive got type 1, and for the 2 years i was with my girlfriend i rarely went hypo but if i did, i just went and got somthing sugary, she knew before i got up what was happening and knew it was nothing to do with her, but once my levels were back up everything was :D again

My ex-boyfriend (4 year relationship) was type 1 and we never had any problems. Go for it girl! He'll tell you (or should) the signs to look for if he is going hypo so you can be prepared. Enjoy :D

You have not said how long he has been a diabetic. If its been a while he will know the signs and take care of it and as the relationship develops you will notice the signs if something is not quite right.

The problem with a new relationship is telling someone that you are diabetic, and explaining the whys and wherefores of diabetes. So you tend not to say anything and the "new" partner only finds out when the partner stops mid flow to have some sugar. Or afterwards rushing off to the kitchen for a sugar fix.

I would say over the last 20 odd years being a type 1 diabetic, I have only had a couple of near misses during sex. Where sugar levels dropped quick and I had not noticed. It could well be I am just not that energetic.

Theres been a few times when my partner has asked if I am OK because she tends to notice the signs before me, and being a typical man I always say of course I am OK. :)

One other thing you need to know is, diabetic men need a lot more sex to keep the old sugar levels at bay. Well thats what I tell my wife

Oh and just in case you get a bit passionate away from home  always carry protection in your handbag - lucozade tablets. Always handy to have anyway just in case.
