Unfortunatyely your only options are a mixed insulin (eg Mixitard) or a basal Bolus insulin (eg Novo/Levimir) there isn't another option. Unfortunately for the most-part an insulin is only as good as the person administering it

In what way does it make you ill?

HI,
There is one another option for a mixed insulin and here's a link http://www.wockhardt.co.uk/products/sea ... ountry=112 Click on "next" and you'll see the 30/70 mixes.
The medical profession like to keep people in the dark re-animal insulin, which is why not many people know it's an option. However It is available, widely used and can be just as effective as any other insulin for many people.
I've been type-1 for nearly 22 yrs and had probs with control on synthetic human insulins, and suffered numerous side-effects & worse control on the newer analogue varieties. Animal insulin is definately worth considering. Failing that, many people find a pump the answer to their problems. Has your doctor suggested any other regime other than the mixed insulin one? ie;basal / bolus/MDI (multiple daily injections).
Like Dollyrocker, I'm interested in what way it's making you ill.
Jus :)
