I bit the bullet oday and made appointments for blood tests etc next week and annual review the following week.
I now know which Dr will be doing the review. Pleasant enough, but will definitely pass on any pproblems to the Diabetes specialist nurse in the practice.
Also civil enough nowadays BUT a Health Hazard. I am really concerned abou spending yet more time in the hospital
for no particular reason. This is almos certain to happen if they find ketones in my water sample.

I touched on this subject a few days ago but hadn't organised anything at the time. Now I need some help if anyone would be so kind.
I understand that drinking a lot of water will help to flush them out. I certainly don't want o eat masses of carbs but I suppose I could avoid going quite so low as usual without too much harm,
The test is ne friday but I have no idea at all what the ime scale is for influencing these levels.
I would be very grateful if one of the expers could offer some advice. I haven't recovered from last week's procedures yet
and have to go back for more before the annual review . Any more visits and we will have to consider a second mortgage for the car parking charges,

I'm no expert, but I would say lots of water. My Ketostix was deep pinky purple yesterday but only just pink today and the only different thing was the amount of water I drank yesterday and this morning.

The experts will probably be along this evening - lots will be coming home from work, or popping in after supper.

Eat a couple of bars of chocolate. It kills the little ketones stone dead. This is my third day eating meat and cheese, and I still can`t get them to come back

I think my Hydrolyzed Collagen supplement killed mine, so I shall stop taking it for a while and see if I can return to purple. This morning was only just blush pink. Very disappointing.

Mine is still at the first none colour Julia, and I am still craving carbs.

Unbeliever. Could you have a few slices of burgen bread the day before. Not to go so high as to take an age to go back into ketosis, but enough to make them look invisible. That may be stupid advice. If so, ignore me.

Thanks everyone. Its not a stupid idea atall Jeannemum. I want o do somethinhg of the kind bu don't ever check muy urine so had no idea of the "time scale" if you understand me. ie would doing something just the previous day be enough.?

I have a greater tolerance of carbs now than I did when I first started low carbing but obviously don't want to adversely afffect the reslts. If I thought just a litle naughiness on the previous day would be sufficient that would be great. Thanks agai n all.

All I can say is that it has affected my ketones by the next day on the three occasions I have gone well over my usual 20 ish grams a day. One night I had a Chinese banquet for my son`s birthday. I kept away from obvious carbs and it only made the ketones disappear for about a day and a half.

I am not going to stop low carbing before my review in June. I am hoping if I explain my diet they will leave me to it. If not, I can have a nice break from my kids

I wouldn't bother if I was likely to see anyone I could explain it to. As it is I know very well what will happen. Especially as it seems quite likely there will be students presen or acyually doing the review under supervision so it will all have o be by the book.
Nice break from the kids in the hospital? I actually come home for a nice break from the hospital! In fact they have suggested I move in and are actually looking for some sort of job for me to do {unpaid of course] I wouldn't mind .
I know some would welcome a respite but its not actually relaxing.
I no longer think Holby City is fiction. I wish I didn't know so much about the politics and personalities. It adds to the stress !

I am deeply into ketosis on 9g of carbs a day, but they hardly show on ketostix as I drink loads and loads of water. Try the flood them out approach with an upping of carbs a day or two before. You will probably still be in ketosis but it won't show in a urine test. After the test, just go back to normal. Crafty eh? :)

Thanks all! I think I've got it now. Not bothered about them thinking I am low carbing. In fact I have already told them a couple of times but the Nurse wouldn't care if I just lived on vitamin tablets so long as the figures were right. In fact i am not sure she registered it. The doctor wouldn't care either but if there was something like ketones which might rebound on them they would seek to offload all responsibility to the hospital Lest it bring my opthalmologist down on them
Hee can be scary.

So its a burgen chocolate sandwich wih about 20 litres of water? Should have some effect

can you all hear yourselves?

The expertise and knowledge of the bodies working is amazing.

i mean it, trully amazing.

did anyone think they would have this ability to listen to their body, manipulate it and produce a desired result.

This sounds like I'm being sarky but I'm not. it's brill.

I'm right with you. It's really incredible. Makes you think though......if we had all had this knowledge and understanding of our body's inner gubbins before diagnosis would T2 diabetes be such an epidemic? Maybe they should add diabetes awareness to the National Curriculum.

What a brilliant idea. Mind, all my family and friends are fully aware now, as each of them has been given chapter and verse of how not to become diabetic (I am the only one in my family with it). Perhaps I should open a "Defren school to avoid diabetes" I can't understand why people change the subject the minute I mention carbs - perplexing
