Recently I have been advised by my GP to start taking a daily 1000mg Vitamin C supplement and a Vitamin B complex supplement. Since starting, I notice that my blood sugars have been running high, well high in respect of taking a long time to come back to normal after eating. ie: waking this morning, 11.4 - 3 units extra, 6.6 before lunch. 75g carb lunch 8.5 units - 3 hours later 18.7 - this has been happening for a few days.

Does anyone have any experience of Vitamin C tablets (ascorbic acid) increasing their BG's - would be interesting to hear..
Many thanks

No experience, but I'm wondering if you should start with some basal testing just to make sure your basal dose doesn't need adjusting.

Hi @dazwalshe - I take a vit c supplement every night & a B complex too. I haven't noticed any change to my sugars. As @noblehead says - perhaps basal testing to check. Good luck

Hi,

I would check out other possibilities as well, since a quick google produced these results:

This is what the DCUK webside says about Vit C http://www.diabetes.co.uk/vitamins-supplements.html

Vitamin C
Type 1 diabetics generally have low vitamin C levels. By increasing the amount of vitamin c in the bloodstream, the amount of sorbitol may be lowered.

Sorbitol is a harmful sugar when it accumulates, and its presence may lead to increased risk of diabetic complications such as retinopathy, neuropathy and kidney damage. In the case of type 2 diabetics, vitamin c may play a role in improving glucose tolerance.
