High fasting number till early afternoon

Hi I was diagnosed in may with hba1c of 42 and I’ve really struggled with this diagnosis due to anxiety and depression. I’m now trying to deal with this and finding it very difficult as I don’t have weight to lose and could do with gaining some. So last week I had some pretty good numbers in the morning and after breakfast I went swimming and aqua aerobics and before lunch my numbers were really good and this week something odd is happening. By the way my breakfasts are the same but I’m just thinking if it’s so different all the time how on the earth am I going to keep up on this diet. I’m doing very low carb high fat as recommended and this morning I tested my fasting glucose it was 5.9 at 8.30am I had breakfast at 9 which was 3 egg omelette with Parma ham and feta cheese. I went swimming and did some walking and then I checked my level before lunch which was around 2pm and it was 6! Shouldn’t t it have come down for goodness sake on such a low carb breakfast plus the exercise and I was starving by lunchtime! I’m finding this so difficult I thought I had a routine going of a good breakfast swimming aquarobics or waking and getting my blood sugar down but instead today it didn’t move! I’ve noticed this on a few other occasions where I have an egg breakfast with a half avocado where my fasting is 6.3 and it will continue to climb even if I’ve eaten breakfast till about 1pm or 2 when it drops back to about 6. It’s annoying how it appears to just climb I don’t understand it and it’s making me more frustrated that I just want to give up if it’s going to be so difficult to get a routine .
 
Your diet and your levels look absolutely fine, please don't let your meter fuel your anxiety. It's a useful tool but it's not accurate enough for you to worry because it measures a 6 and you think it should be lower
( 6 after exercise is a good result) your meter is only accurate to plus /minus 15% so your actual level could be much lower than 6.
Our bodies are not machines they are complex living organisms controlled mainly by hormones. Exercise can cause higher levels because hormones can signal our liver to release some stored glucose to give us a little energy for the exercise. In exactly the same way it can give us a little boost to help us start the day (Dawn Phenomenon) our levels are quite dynamic changing throughout the day. It's not going to help your anxiety or your levels if you get stressed every time they are not what you think they should be
 
Not only is it likely to be the liver helping your exercise (and the meter tolerances simply not being that precise) but the exercise will help you keep burning glucose for hours afterwards too. Making your overall average lower than had you not done it at all. So please don’t stop the exercise for worrying over your meter. Draining the liver by way of using up its stored glucose and maintaining glucose burning muscle is a great long term strategy. You are doing great.

Thank you I will carry in with my exercise and stick to very low carb then. I’ve never exercised so I’m new to this I may leave testing for awhile and just stick to very low carb and do my exercise to help my anxiety in general! Thank you I’m so glad I posted here for reassurance!
 
In your situation maybe just test before and after a meal a few times til you know it’s safe and then don’t test that meal again for a while. Leave the testing before and after exercise out of it for now. That should mean you get useful information you can actually act on rather than worry about the ones that are a bit more difficult to know what to do about. Hopefully the exercise will help the anxiety as well as the glucose.

oh and don’t be hungry, especially if you want to maintain weight. Add more unprocessed proteins and fats to your meals to help fuel yourself (and protect your muscles) rather than burn your stores
