How can a diabetic let their blood sugar go so low that they

Re: How can a diabetic let their blood sugar go so low that

Quite easily if they are on insulin and loose they hypo awareness or drop too low overnight whilst asleep, which is generally why T1's are advised to aim for slightly higher bg levels than T2's who are at much less risk of hypos unless on insulin or other insulin producing meds.

but surely as a type 1.5 diabetic you would already understand this?
as you say you are on insulin on your profile

I dont think any diabetic Type 1 or 2 has hypos on purpose since more often than not they are not very pleasant. As Sid says, hypos can happen very easily and sometimes without you being aware, there are many reason for hypos and for Types 1s in particular it can be a daily juggling act trying to avoid them

Hi all!

Type 1.5 (or LADA) on insulin is quite different from full Type 1, I think. My hypos tend to be fairly mild and hang in the 3.5 area for a long time before dropping any further. If they do drop lower, my body liver-dumps to correct this. That's not to say you can't get into trouble, but when you're still producing some of your own insulin, it's less likely. The exception is after I've been drinking alcohol. I, and many other 1.5s/LADAs, take really quite small doses of insulin, which also helps avoid severe hypos. We have a tendency to treat LADA as though it's pretty much the same as Type 1, but there are some significant differences. I'm guessing the OP is going by his/her experience of Type 1.5 hypos and assuming that Type 1 is the same.

Insulin is the way to reduce blood sugar level. But regular walk outs are also necessary for a diabetic patient.
