my Doctor has referred me to a Podiatrist for my feet, theres nothing really wrong with them except hardened heels but apparently under the State Govt health scheme for diabetes i get 3 free visits so im taking it:woot:

I have never seen a podiatrist before but apparently its important if u have type 2

How many of you regularly see one,is it important for you or you only wait until you get a foot problem?

I need to see one asap! Been waiting a few months now and my toe is woeful. IMG-20180611-WA0002.jpeg

My GP here in Perth sets me up with a free visit to a podiatrist each year. The main purpose of the visit is to check the pulses (using an ultrasound) and to test for sensation in all the toes etc. If there are other issues, the podiatrist takes care of them too. Luckily my feet are still doing OK.

We get five free visits to a podiatrist on a Qld. health care plan through my GP.

All of the testing gets done and toenails get pruned as well every ten weeks.

to be safe you should always wear protection on your feet as a diabetic ............ including at the seaside and pool and in your own house.............i have a foot check once a year to check for potential neuropathy and I am always ultra careful with my feet.

I wish I was more careful when I was younger.

Here's my podiatrists profile from their website.

Very knowledgeable person who knows what the best tv shows to watch on Netflix and Stan are.

You Aussies - you can use those visits for other specialties too - opthalmology, dietician, diabetes education, psychology, and most impressively, exercise physiology. I went to see an exercise physiologist at the local uni, and not only did I get some great tips on the best ways to exercise for my set of issues, but I also joined a couple of weekly group exercise sessions and was recruited into a study which gives me a further free session in a few months to see how I'm doing with it all. We get 5 free visits a year total as part of the GP management plan for chronic disease, and these can be extended to 10 under some circumstances.

Yes I know that, but I can get my toenails cut properly that's why I use them up at the podiatrist.

I have a credentialed diabetes educator (CDE) that bulk bills Medicare.
