Hiya
If I can remember, last hba1c was 6.7, which diabetic nurse said was good, but should be due another test soon.
Personally that sounds good to me although you will get members who maintain that it should be much lower. I want my own to be around 6%. I am trying to get back down to that levels after recent Cancer treatment.
As far as the term 'normal' goes, my GP says that 3.5 - 4.5mmol/l is the normal limit but I get really shaky, sweaty, weak, just not very well when my bg goes below 5mmol/l, I then have to raid the sugar jar to rectify this, which eases the symtoms enough so I can eat my meal.
The medical opinion is that anything below 4 mmol/l is considered hypoglycaemic.....a hypo. Something you should avoid. So what you have been told may be suitable for a non-Diabetic....however, you are a Diabetic so it is not advisable to stay at that level.
Your body is giving you the warning signs that you are going too low and you need to respond by consuming sugar/glucose. That is exactly what I have to do sometimes to maintain, good Bg control. You need to make sure you do not miss meals of some sort as this is not really recommended as a Diabetic.
To be honest I'm not sure what I'm getting at with this statement apart from asking 'is it ok, medically, to live with this level?
In my opinion ........No !
Btw, thanks for the comment on hypo awareness.
