I dislike Lyxumia. Is there an alternative?

I thought that my new regime Lyxumia would have sorted itself out by now but its become even more difficult and I’m not sure what to do to get into a reasonable reaction from it.

Yesterday after a normal light lunch od soup at midday I took my injection at the normal time of 17.30 and waited for 18.00 for my main meal but the top of my head started to feel very warm, I started to feel nauseous and under no circumstances could I face food of any description. I telephoned a medical friend for advice who said take a blood level measurement which I did and it was at 9.6 and my medical friend said you must eat something. The only thing I could face was two slices of bread and jam and ten minutes later I took another blood reading and it was 3.4 upon which I settled down and felt a little better. I had my main meal a little later. All in all I’m becoming very fed up with this treatment and do wish there was something else I could take. I attempted to contact the suppler but they are impossible to get to.

Why did you have to eat to get your blood sugar down?

I have no idea but it seemed a good idea at the time and it worked. Having said that this drug often makes me feel so wretched that I fel like dumping it and taking the result. How on earth can such a drug be released?

Normally eating bread and jam would raise most people's blood sugar. There are many different drugs out there to use to manage blood glucose. Are you on or have you tried any others?

Amlodipine 5mg once a day

Gliclazide 80 mg Two tablets twice a day

Lisinopril 20 mg one a day

Lyxumia 20 mg by injection once a day

Metformin 500 mg twice a day

Sitagliptin 100 mg one a day

Warfarin 5 mg once a day

Bisoprolol 2.5 mg once a day

Simvastatin 20mg once a day
Plus 20mg Lyxmumia

Type 2 Diabetic

Atrial Fibrillation

Periodic chest infections

High blood pressure

High cholesterol

This forum's information on Lyxumia is at: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-medication/lyxumia.html. It can cause low blood sugars when used with Gliclazide. I cannot see why it would produce high blood sugars or how taking onboard carbs would help in lowering it. This is something that you should discuss with your GP

I fear that my comments on this post have developed the mark of a disgruntled hypochondriac obsessed with the minute details of his medical conditions and I apologise if that is how I appear. My interest in this matter is based on the simple wish to understand the physiology of what is happening to me.

Yesterday I ate normally, a wicked fry up for lunch, a couple of Ham sandwiches for tea and a Yoghurt with Cherry and Cranberry during the evening. I was awoken at about 2am with the most awful stomach wind which I have never had before and my wife gave me some Gripe Water which eventually sorted me out.

Sunday morning is always a day of excitement for me as I weigh myself and take a blood sugar reading? I’m satisfied with the weight but the blood sugar reading was very disappointing at 10.6. I checked the Gripe water details which say its alcohol and sugar free and is made up of Dill seed oil, Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate.

I will check the blood sugar reading tomorrow morning and hope its better and if not I will see my doctor.

The above was a few days ago but I'm in trouble again. I took my injection this evening, waited the appropriate time and had my main meal of the day at about 18.30 then at about 22.00 I started to feel a troubled tummy which is a sign I'm going into a hypo so I did a blood test and it read 4.1 way below normal for me so I did what I have done before and ate a packet of crisps and a slice of toast and immediately started to feel better. I took another blood test half an hour or so later and my blood sugar had started to rise.
I never had these problems before I went onto Lyxumia so I will make an appointment with my doctor to see if there is an alternative.

I hope you can get this sorted out. There is nothing worse than not being sure why things are happening.

Take care of yourself

Doug

Did you get sorted out?

Am I supposed to have my injection at least an hour before food? That's what I've been doing - maybe this is why I'm not seeing improvements!?
