Last week, Mr. Vintage and I enjoyed our first extended getaway alone in 8 years. It was heaven. All five days, my fasting & post-prandial levels were lower than they have been during this entire diabetes journey, despite indulging in a treat of some sort each day. Treats might be a slice of PB custard pie, homemade fries, fudge, or fried fish.

I have been back home two days and my fasting levels are back to their previous normal, which is higher than my vacation levels.

It's official. I need to quit my job and give away my children and live the stress free life.

Amazing how the lack of everyday stresses made such a difference.....I wonder if trading my husband in and moving in next door to you in your vacation get away would help my BG levels

@Gezzabelle I think we should do it!!! I feel like everything I have learned and experienced over the past several months have meant NOTHING in face of a stress free holiday.

I mean...PB pie? An normal BS results. It just shouldn't happen.

You're right ...it shouldn't happen but it did....and I could sooo do with a little of that We should set up a stress free zone...a haven of PB pie and ice cream for all of us to run away to....who needs the NHS?....we can fix this diabetes in our own little paradise

Ah yes, the daily grind... roll on retirement.

Or winning the lottery. I would prefer that.

But first, I would need to buy a ticket... see? the stress is building already!

(and I don't even have children. cunning forward planning, or what?)

I did retire...hence the need to trade in my husband haha,,,,,,runs to buy lottery ticket

Short of quitting my job and selling my children, I may need to look deeper into this "stress phenomenon".

Obviously, it negatively impacts my blood sugar. I can't help but wonder if there is a way to trim some of the stress from my life. Add more sleep. Although, my almost 2 year old could help by sleeping through the night.

Girls, this could be THE winning ticket!

Were you exercising more; maybe walking?

I am still in favour of selling the kids haha.....you have the terrible two's to come ....Joking apart though it isn't good that everyday stresses affect your BG so badly. Maybe finding a little more time for YOU would help....kiddiewinks in bed and you and hubby have some quality time...glass of wine and some chill out time. Meanwhile...I am putting my husband on Ebay....free to a good home .I'll even deliver

You didn't by any chance go to someplace by the sea?

I did walk a lot, however I walk quite a bit on a daily basis anyway. It was definitely more sightseeing/relaxed walking, though.

Not the sea, but the Great Lakes. Share your theory...maybe, I can talk Mr. Vintage into moving to the Northwoods.

I'm still chewing over this, because I want so badly to replicate the lower BS (especially fasting) while on vacation--minus the treats, of course.

Thinking back, DH and I enjoyed a nip of Vodka every night in our drinks. Not much, but I wonder if that kept my liver busy and stopped it from dumping during the night. The lower it is in the morning, the lower it is for the rest of the day.

Thoughts?

Interesting, every year we go away somewhere sunny for 2 weeks and I always say we should make it permanent as my BS levels are always brilliant, I feel great. Definitely to do with lack of stress I think.
Also interesting though is that I too drink more regularly on hols. Hmmmm, maybe more regular alcohol?!!!
