Hi, there is a lot of information to take in, I was hoping you could help. If I am going to go on a long cycle ride, do I need to take on board extra insulin along with the required regular carbs?

Hi dad10155,

The short answer is no. But I'd definitely recommend carrying a packet of Dextrosol tablets in your back pocket to treat a low BS.
The slightly longer answer is that it partly depends on your BS when you start and the amount of insulin in your system. If you have a highish BS and little insulin for example, even a long bike ride may result in a higher BS than when you started out. On a long ride, I'll take dextrosol and insulin so I'm ready for anything.....

All the best,

fergus
