Hi Everybody do people that are type 2 use insulin injections ?? Or just type 1 people. Im on 2 metophage tablets 500mg twice daily hope it dont go to 3 times daily im on enough of tablets as it is :-( but is it possible that down the road i might have to use insulin injections or do you have to be type 1 to be on insulin injections ??? Because when i look at threads it says type 2 with insulin is that injections or tablets. My understanding when i got diagnosed type 2 can manage on diet alone or metophage tablets tupe 1 use insulin injections did i miss understand the doctor ???

I am type 2 on metformin and insulin.

After being diagnosed nearly 5 years ago I did the diet and exercise, then the tablets but for me it didnt really work. My levels came down for the first couple of yeaes then crept back up to the point where my diabetic nurse reckoned I could eat dust andit wouldn't make a difference. Started the insulin, just once a day, just before Christmas and its made a huge difference. I've found it a doddle and really easy to manage.

Ok cool so insulin is injections xx are you now type 1 that ur on the injection or still classed as type 2. I hope i stay on 2 tablets a day the other name for my tablets are Glucophage. Im not even a year yet been diabetic so things could change in yrs to come i hope they dont. When im not on steroids for my neurological condition or oral steroids for my asthma and the steroid injections in my shoulders and back every 3 months i have good readings when i keep food down. Havnt eaten an actual meal since last summer having problems with my tummy was able to snack on things tru out the day then it got so bad in april and may i cudnt keep water down i was admitted to hospital. My sugars with no food or fluids would drop to 2 or so at nite and spike up to 20 or so also a nite or day time so until tummy gets sorted my sugars will get some bit normal they kinda all over the place even since i came home coz there are days i still cant keep food down but i will always need oral steroids for my asthma when i get sick and injections every 3 months for my (shoulders) they help with the pain in the scapulas collar bones hips and spine too. But also get steroid injections in my back too every 3 months and botox injections in my back to relax the muscles. So id say my sugars will never be perfect but i hope the steroids over the years make me type 1 and need to inject myself with insulin :-(

Sorry meant to say i hope the steroids over the years dont make me type 1 and need to inject myself with insulin ive enough health problems as it is

Hi. T2s can be on insulin as well as Metformin particuarly if they still have excess weight. Be aware that a proportion of 'normal' weight T2s are actually misdiagnosed T1s and will eventually need insulin as well as probably staying on Metformin as well. If you have excess weight then you probbaly are T2 thru insulin resistance and if you can get the weight down thru low-carbing you may only need tablets if any and possibly never need insulin; it isn't inevitable to have insulin unless your pancreas is failing i.e. a T1

Please can you give me any reassurance on Insulin and type 2, I 've been type 2 for 15 years ,and since a recent family crisis my bloods have gone through the roof, so I have to go on Insulin too
