Sorry if I have put this in the wrong place - do move if necessary.

It seems that I may have to go on insulin. Have been on Byetta with not much success, it seems everything I eat sends my levels high - I am type 2 but am wondering if I may have the LADA version, which I will be discussing with my Dr the next time I go. I try my hardest, carry on not eating fruit or anything can't have anything really, have low carbed, but am living a joyless existence which ends in failure and guilt. Can anybody tell me if they have gone to insulin and found that life has improved and they did not put on loads of weight. I am a nice weight for my height, always have been and take pride in my appearnce and have no problem with self discipline - within reason - I like to eat sometimes!!! I feel that I am getting nowhere lately and fear for my long term future - my Dr mentioned Insulin the last time but we agreed to give Byetta longer. Any suggestions/advice/ experiences like min and what happened n the end would be greatly appreciated - i am not really sure where I am going from here ...:(

Thank you

I don't know a lot about Byetta, but I've got the impression that it's main benefits are for overweight diabetics, so it may not have been the best choice for you in the first place. There are other medicines available. Insulin is not the only one Perhaps you might get your doctor to send you to the clinic for a consultation. they might have some ideas to help you if you don't want to go on insulin.

Living a life of failure and guilt is not good :(
If you did have Lada, you wouldn't have any option about insulin eventually. It is not type 2, it as slower developing form of type 1. I agree with Hana about seeing a specialist you may then have tests which would give a clearer idea. As to insulin and weight gain, I did gain weight when I first went on it but only because I had lost so much before diagnosis and needed to gain it back again. In the last 4 years I've only varied by 2kg either way.(I tend to go up when I do less exercise ) However, I seem to be pretty insulin sensitve so don't take that much.
I've read of many people with type 2 who have gained good control with MDI, thats using a basal insulin and a rapid insulin which you take when eating and can adapt the dose according to the meal.
I've also read that many people with type 2 in the UK are put on mixed insulins, these are less flexible and ,in my opinion as I've not used them myself, don't seem to enable such good control.

Thank you Hana and Phoenix for your replies - I will have to write up my issues and take them wih me to the Dr's - I usually forget what I wanted to ask if I don't write it down and take it with me!
