Hi,

I'm new to this site and would appreciate any feedback from fellow posters. I have had Type 2 diabetes for 6 years and have been taking both gliclazide and metformin for approx 3 years. My glucose levels are not being controlled and are averaging out (after testing twice daily at random times) at about 15. My diabetic team have suggested that I begin to inject insulin. I would be grateful for any feedback as this is obviously a big decision and I'd like to know how other people cope with injecting and if it is a short term solution.

Thanks in advance,
Ruthie

Very well. Insulin really isn't that bad (not that I had a choice being T1)

I suspect that this would depend on the type of insulin since they allow for varying amounts of flexibility. You will have to test more frequently at least until you figure out the right doses. You may have to be more careful with driving and operating heavy machinery.

hi Ruthie

I was in the same boat 12months ago, I've been T2 for 16 years, as for going on Insulin its easy :D
I do mine every time I eat, and at bedtime, I still take my metformin as well, I now get reading under 10 which is good for me still a long to go, big thing was telling the DVLA now have to renew my license every 3 years

I'm type 2 and have been on insulin for about 4 months now. I can assure you injecting is not nearly as scary as you think it's going to be. Infact, i find it less painful than the finger pricking.
