I'm a new member, diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year. My condition is monitored by three monthly/now six monthly blood tests by my gp who alters medication depending on results. I hope that a new improved diet and more excercise may reduce the prescription. I checked the small print on my current annual insurance policy and it does not cover you if the prescription has changed in any way during the last 12 months. So I did not renew. I called a so called diabetes insurer who asked if I was STABLE and whether I was fit for travel and to contact my doctor. I then had to bother the doctor, who obviously deals with a lot of insurers trying not to pay and he pronounced me fit for travel but could not say I was stable. So these insurers then told me they only deal with ordinary travel insurance, and put me in contact with another insurer. Free Spirit Insurance wanted to charge a much heftier fee (fair enough) but when I mentioned the small print in my current insurer's policy about changes in prescriptions, they too added that if my prescription was changed I would need to inform them. Not being someone who likes paperwork, the chances of me remembering to do this are about zero per cent, so for the meantime I have no travel insurance, and at least am not paying a hefty fee for no cover. Have others had similar problems and are there solutions for people like me whose medication is bound to be changing as the doctor works out what to do with me or my condition changes?
