Please help - I am itchy everywhere on my bod, not used anything new or different. Have tried cream and antihistamine that the doc gave me and its not working. Could it be Ramipril or Simvastatin (been on them nearly two weeks)

Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
Are your blood sugars high at the moment ? That may be one cause, both those medications can also cause skin rashes. Best to go back to the doctors and see what he/she says.

Just tested - 12.1 up from 7.0 this morning. Have only been testing for couple of days but this is the highest reading so far. What do you think? :?

Keep an eye on Bg levels. If the itch seems less when they are lower then this MAY be the cause. However please go and see doctor and discuss.

Hi Clairslloyd!

Have you had blood tests recently? I got the awful all-over itching when I was a bit anaemic. As soon as it was treated with iron supplements the itching went away. You'll need to see your doctor though because high dose iron supplements can be dangerous and shouldn't be taken without medical confirmation that you need them - they are only taken for a short time. If you've not had blood tests, it might be worth asking for some.

Resurrecting this thread! Help! I am suffering intense itching all over including my scalp. Has anyone got an immediate solution for me as it's NOW that I'm suffering. It's driving me mad. My BG is 5.3 at one hour after eating so it's not that.

Oh daisy, poor you.

It will look unsightly but plain yoghurt will cool it down.

You do not give a list of your meds on your profile but some do cause this.
Might be worth getting some anti-histimanes from your Gp? I know that there are contra-indications with these for some people.

Thanks Catherine. I will try rubbing some yoghurt in. Yes I do take a medication (not for diabetes) which has a rare side effect of itching. I get it occasionally. I also take Omega 3 which is supposed to help. Going to try the yoghurt now... :)

Wonderful relief :) As the joghurt went on my skin felt cool instantly. It stopped the itching straight away. I just put a little on and rubbed it in so it wasn't too messy. I can really recommend this treatment. I didn't fancy putting it on my scalp though so I'll carry on scratching there  Thanks so much Catherine. :)

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
I had the most chronic itching and hives after being put on either pregabalin or gabapentin, can't remember which one.....I went immediately to chemist, as it was a Saturday.

He told me to bathe 3 times a day in Oilatum. You do have to be exceptionally careful getting in to and being in and getting out of the bath with this stuff. It took the itching away within 10 minutes. But I did have to have 3 baths a day..... I also stopped taking the drugs immediately, and by the Monday I phoned the GP and informed them.

Thanks DD :) - that might be good to try if I can get it - I don't live in the UK. But the joghurt has really helped.

Daisy,

Fungal infections of the skin often start in the scalp, my eldest lad suffered from this and was given a special shampoo and body wash to rid the skin of the infection, he applied various creams after washing and also had to take a antihistamine for a few weeks which cleared the condition completely.

Should this problem continue then do see your gp and if necessary get referred to a skin specialist.

Thanks Nigel. :) If the itching continues I will see my GP. But it's not a new problem - I have it intermittently and probably tomorrow it will be gone. It could well be a side effect of a medication which I must take. I must say that joghurt worked a treat for short term relief. I have already got antihistamine on my shopping list so will try that and see how it helps. I think it can make you drowsy though so won't be able to take it on days when I have to drive.

No problem Daisy! :)

Is the yogurt full fat or low fat?
