Hi everyone, I'm Pete, a 60 year old bloke living in Cornwall England. I've recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have yet to have a consultation with a diabetes specialist nurse, so I'm nosing around t'internet for information. I've not made any lifestyle changes yet, as I thought it best to see what the experts have to say first, but I suspect I'll be on here regularly before long with a million & one questions.

I was born in England but moved to N Ireland in 1992. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1995 when I was 13 years old. I live in Belfast now with my husband and our wee 15 year old puddy, Willow.

Hi, My name is Ken. I was diagnosed with type 2 in December 2019. I am not on any medication. I have made changes to my diet. Cutting down portions and carbs. I measure my blood sugar in the morning before breakfast and around 2 hours after evening meal. Fasting is always between 4.3 and 5.2. Post prandial has never been above 6.2.
My reason for visiting the doctor was that I had suffered 3 viral infections including Norovirus. The last one was causing me acute back pain It would be fair to say that my immune system was somewhat compromised. Could my hbA1c test have been skewed by my I'll health. Since diagnosis I have been back to my normal good health. My visit in December was my first doctor visit in 5 years. The Go asked me if I was a new patient. I have been registered at the same surgery for 33 years!

Hi. New here. My name is Pete, 52 yr old fat dad with type 2. Controlled (or not) with Metformin. Dedicated Mac fanboy. I'm a Construction Site Manager and keen angler. Father of 2 kids, 12 and 15. I was diagnosed in 2018 and have let things go a bit. Latest checkup revealed HbA1c of 79 so I've got myself a monitor and am on a serious low carb routine and also trying to get the weight off. I'll have loads of questions I'm sure as my GP is not really the informative type - she just chucked me some drugs and wished me well!!

 

Hi there. I am a parent of a 6 year old daughter with diabetes. She has had Diabetes for 3 years now. We have recently got a spocker pup and are currently training the pup with my daughters low blood sugar scents... The pup is very good at finding the correct container and lying down to indicate she has found the scent.

I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me or to forward me some advice on how to take the next step for the pup to smell the scent off my daughter rather than from a container.

We live in Northern Ireland and would be very grateful for ant information.

The reason why we are training this pup is because my daughter is going through hypo unawareness and its very worring as she is only 6 years old.
