Hi Nick, welcome to the forum. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself? What type of diabetes do you have?
Hi everyone. A little bit of advice please. I'm type 2 diabetic. Take 2 x500 slow release metformin daily. For some reason Doctors only seem to test T4 . But when asking my nurse if she can put T3 she said it's just not policy. But my daughter in Florida says they test everything there. Anyway my main question is, when I saw the nurse on Saturday she said I don't have a pulse in my left foot. I had an accident a few years ago and shattered my ankle and broke 3 toes. I have also had a neuroma in my foot removed which damaged some of the nerves in those toes. I also have diabetic neuropathy. Wasn't told about the pulse in that foot before but is it likely to cause me to loose my foot? A lot to answer I know. But someone here might know the answer. Thank you Eileen
Hi @EileenEB , and welcome to the forum. Would you like me to move your post to a thread of its own? It would be more visible that way.
Hi Nick Glad to read your post, as much of it applies to me - I am 65, diagnosed as T2 some 10 years ago, never been overweight, always done lots of exercise / kept fit, no symptoms at all (only diagnosed after a work-provided health check). Like you I avoided seeing medics, as I think there are others with far greater needs. Initially I "controlled" it with diet and exercise, but the Hba1c levels crept up and was put on 2 then 3 then 4 metformin a day (but now back down to 3) plus linagliptin. Thought I ate a healthy diet as my weight stayed stable - no fast food, minimal alcohol, lots of veg / fruit etc., but now realise I was overdoing carbs. My wife wanted to lose some weight so I agreed to join her on a keto diet, albeit on a higher calorie count as I don't want to lose any more weight. Have been on this for nearly 4 weeks now and eager to see what my Hba1c level is at my next check, as I would really like to come off the meds! My reading suggests that what has been sold as a healthy diet really isn't, but I will reserve judgement until I see the effects of the low carbon, high fat / protein approach. Good luck at keeping the metformin at bay! Graham

Hi, my name is Maureen, married, from Sefton age 59. Not diabetic but want to support my friend. Started low carb over 1pm this ago. Absolutely love it. So happy with what I was doing and then IBS hit. This seemed to completely send me off the rails trying to figure out what I could eat. All the foods that I was trying to stay away from on low carb, was the only food that I could tolerate. I can’t seem to get on track again. I am asking for a kick up the backside really and any guidance for getting back on track. I got so used to knowing what I could it on low carb and was able to condition myself, only for that routine to go out of the window. Any hints/advice would be truly so grateful.
Hi Annette from Australia I am nearly 60 and have three grown sons I live in the land down under and due to the silly financial situation we all live in, my two younger sons are home with me. Both work and are really great young men Soooooooo I got diagnosed a few years ago with type 2. got the usual meds and took them.. I was SO good and got my blood sugar down by eating the right things and then, well I slipped I have been taking the meds still but not eating healthily Recent blood test showed it was way too hight (that'd explain my dry mouth and extreme thirst) so BACK ON THE DIET AGAIN ... I'm gonna be searching for more interesting ways to make my meals so I don't get bored
