I like camping and recently bought this really cool blow up mattress when i went camping in wales in 2023, but i do prefer more luxury. I have been in love, but i prefer my own company it is too much drama and bad energy. Yes i have had a spray tan, but prefer the sun on my skin. I have traveled a lot to many places to mention. Do not really watch TV, but love films, to many good ones to mention. No i am not wealthy in money status, but i am wealthy with friendship and life. I am self employed and deal with Enforcement. I do not have diabetes
Thank you Giverny, for invite.
First up, I currently do not have diabetes but do have other things that could change that scenario as I get older.
I live in/near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. I have and still do love cars. Not that I’ve ever had a new one. However, I have just sold on my beloved Mazda Bongo which I purchased approx 8yrs ago for my retirement and lived in it for 2yrs, travelling the UK with my fishing gear. Like fishing, I also have dabbled in golf too but it can be a thief of time and expensive too. I digress, I have recently replaced the Bongo with a more sporty affair, an Audi A3 2.0l sportback Quattro tfsi s-tronic. Again it’s got a few yrs on it but low mileage and in fantastic condition. Fingers crossed, it could be my last ‘boys toy’ to have fun with.
Pet hate: Dog owners who leave their pet out in the garden to bark all day long. For me, that is sadly not a happy dog!! I just want to go round there and bring it home.
Anyway, having got that off my chest, I am looking forward to sharing information within this forum.

I’m always looking for tips, sharing resources, and learning from this amazing community. Outside of diabetes, I’m a big fan of trying vegan recipes and staying active. Hi David,

Your question might get lost a little in this introduction thread, but yes, there's quite a bit that can be done to get diabetes under control without medication. You mention a diet, but offer no specifics. There's a lot of diets out there, and some are more suited to help diabetics than others. What do you eat and drink in a day, maybe there's something to be gained there, yet. Been without medication and in the normal range these past 8 years or so, so yes, it can be reversible, though the term may irk some.... Once a diabetic, always a diabetic, but one can be so well controlled as to be asymptomatic and additional complication-free.

Anyway, hope we can help!
Jo

Hi everyone. I'm Kenny, I'm 66 years old, a male and I was diagnosed with type 1 when I was 9 years old. I'm not going to go through the template but here are some things about me.

Have I ever been in love, Answer yes, and apart from with myself, I loved the woman who was the mother of my 39 year old son, and I truly love the girl I've been married to for the past fourteen and a half years. It helps that she has the patience of a saint because living with a type 1 diabetic, isn't always easy as I'm sure you all realise. If my blood sugar creeps low, I can be arrogant, I never need anybody to help me do anything and I will swear black is white. Apart from that, I'm lovely

Over the past two or so years, I've had long term diabetic eye problems with glaucoma in my left eye. Still can drive but it sure is annoying!

I don't play football any more but still suffer, and suffer very badly from supporting West Ham United. They were the first English team I ever saw play in 1965 when our family moved from Edinburgh, my place of birth, to Coventry. I lived in Suffolk until about 4 years ago when we moved up to West Yorkshire near where my son lives and back to my wife Pam's roots. She's a proper Yorkshire lass.

I still work and lead a national charity called Steps, offering support and guidance for parents whose children have been diagnosed with lower limb issues such as clubfoot or hip dysplasia and the like. I'm sure you can imagine the shock it must be for those parents when a 20 week scan highlights an issue like that! I'm now drawing my state pension, so I might actually retire soon.

I've travelled all around the world during my time, apart from south America, so maybe that's the next challenge. I'm currently writing this from a spot overlooking a beach in Koh Tao and island off the coast of Thailand. One thing I'm sure all is type 1 D's struggle with when travelling far afield is adjusting to the difference in time zones. We are currently 7 hours ahead of the UK. It's not impossible, but I really don't think there are hard and fast rules about how to cope with meal times, injection times and all that, I play it a bit by ear, and it seems to work.m
I do have a faith. I'm a real Christian. I don't just go to church, I do try and use whatever I've been given to help others, and I do try to show love for everyone. Yes, even Millwall and Tottenham fans

My music tastes are diverse and eclectic. My number one group is Roxy Music from the seventies and eighties. Also Provcol Harum, Pink Floyd, Cockney Rebel, Pulp, New Order, Rolling Stones, Beethoven,Wagner, Mozart and my wife walked down the aisle in 2010 to the Canon in D major by Johan Pachebel. You should catch it because I find it truly awesome. Fortunately, so does my wife Pam.

Enough about me, let's hear all about my other special diabetic friends. I say friends and not diabetics, because I'm NOT diabetic, it's something I have, but it certainly doesn't define me, in any way. Keep the faith, and keep on trucking

Hi everyone, I'm Tammi, your newest "oops-I-should-have-listened" club member. I've been teetering on the edge of diabetes for years, but about a year ago, gravity did its thing, and here I am, officially T2. Cue the confetti...or not.

My late husband had diabetes and managed to tick every "what not to do" box. Neuropathy? Check. Toe amputation? Check. Leg below the knee? Yep. Throw in retinopathy and kidney problems for good measure. Long story short, he got the express ticket to meet his Maker six years ago. You'd think that would have been my wake-up call. Spoiler alert: it wasn't.

Now, I'm battling the medics who shoved metformin at me like it was candy, even though my numbers barely scraped the diagnosis threshold. And don’t get me started on their statin obsession! My cholesterol is 5.6, which I guess isn’t award-winning, but I’m sticking to my guns and saying "no, thank you."

I’m looking to try the Newcastle diet or something similar, but convincing the medical crew feels like trying to sell sunscreen in a snowstorm. Meanwhile, I’m upping my exercise game—because crafting, painting, and singing (while delightful) aren’t exactly calorie burners.

Oh, and I’m a faith-filled Christian—not the preachy, holier-than-thou type, just trying to live life by the Good Book and enjoy myself along the way. I’m here for the laughs, the wisdom, and hopefully some tips to keep me on this side of healthy while I still enjoy my cookies (sometimes).

Looking forward to learning, laughing, and living a bit longer,
Tammi

Why do you feel you need their permission? You are in charge of your own body. If you want support you'll get plenty here. And with your wonderful sense of humour you can get through any thing!

Morning everyone, I am a newbie and diagnosed with Type 1 at the end of September having been treated by GP as type 2 for 5 months which ended up with a hospital stay for DKA. My brain is in overload and I am a keen cyclist so fighting to be able to get out there and do what I enjoy. I currently take Lantus in the morning which I don’t feel works for me and Fiasp with meals. The Fiasp replaced NovoRapid as that was too slow. After about a month of good success on Fiasp, things have gone haywire and I am struggling again. I wake up with BG at around 9 and porridge breakfast; measured out and carb counted etc.. as directed, usually spikes within the hour to around 12 or 13 and normally takes 2 hours to come down back to around 9. If I increase the ratio to 1.5 units insulin to 10 g carbs then I usually bomb out and go hypo, at least 3mm/ol. Finding the balance is hard and frustrating. I am determined to not let this beat me or define me. Any help, advice or tips would be most welcome and appreciated and I hope that I can offer something in return as I get a grip of this diabetes. I wish everyone well and thank you in advance
