Is this normal?

I only have background/stage 1 retinopathy in one eye at the moment and I know that it's not meant to affect vision etc at this stage but I keep noticing the affected eye is quite red/bloodshot. To be fair it's my worse eye vision wise anyway, I had an operation on it in childhood, but since this diagnosis I'm a bit more worried when this happens. I was told to just keep going to my annual eye screening which I will, I just wanted to ask those with personal experience whether this is normal with background retinopathy? Vision isn't affected (more than is normal for me) but I'm extremely light sensitive too, though I have other conditions that could account for that..

Hi @CrazyCatLady2693 It is difficult to give an accurate answer but this might help, especially the symptoms section. If in any doubt, ask to see an ophthalmologist at your hospital
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I was diagnosed Type 1 at aged 10 and at 48 I developed retinopathy in my right eye leading to a bleed I stopped smoking and cut down drastically on drinking and started tested my blood sugar religiously. Since then things have improved and it was the wake up call I needed!
