Hi

Have not posted for a long while, had a bit of a nightmare with the diabetes interacting with another long standing condition, but lets not go there. At least I have lost 6.5 stone (since March!).

The quacks have decided I cannot take Sulfonylurea's because I am very sensitive to it apparently and therefore at risk of fatal Hypoglycaemia and cannot take Metformin as have problems with my gut.
Anyway FINALLY been prescribed a drug, that they reckon will do the trick, which is Januvia, which is the only one I am taking. Any one had experience of it? Can't seem to find any guidance online or anywhere else about the best time of day to take this. It does say there have been a couple of cases of drowsiness but nothing really backs this up, so wondered it at night might be better?

Al the quacks deliberating has taken so long, I now have lost the sensation totally in two toes and have started to lose in my fingers as well. Will the Januvia reverse this?

Thank you in advance.

I'm on it and other than severe constipation it seems to be working well for me. My gut is sensitive so i've tried every drug over the years and miss the simplicity of Insulin!
Sore throats is another side effect but i've managed to avoid too much upset by now.

Resurrecting an old thread...
I have been given the choice of taking Januvia to replace Metformin which I have just stopped. I have read the two links given above but am a bit worried about side effects especially the headaches which are the reason I stopped Metformin. I am also very worried that there is a risk of hypos with this drug. My endo wants me to take Januvia if my sugars start going up or if I start putting on weight. I can't find much information about it on the forum and know it is fairly new. Has anyone started using it recently or has a longer experience with it and could let me know what they think about it and what side effects they have had? Thanks for any information to help me decide whether to take it or not. BTW I am type 2.

Hi. I am on januvia and find it compatable with my weird body and system intolerances. all I have experienced is a dry mouth but can live with this. Was told by hospital diabetic specialist it is a drug with very few side effects. Have had no problems being on this at all.In fact its the only one I take now! Tried metformin in both slow release form and gentler soluble form found them horrendous with violent cramps and sickness lasting till 3am wore me out. Never again! As far as I am concerned januvia gets my vote 100%. Hope this helps anyone wanting to try januvia. Anna.
