I thought that I would start painting the front spare bedroom as my mum is going to visit in the summer so wanted to make the front bedroom nice, i managed to paint a wall, then i started to feel dizzy and shaky! i took my blood sugar to find it had dropped to 3.8, I phoned my mum who said do you have some chocolate or lucozade?, i answered no!
she said i needed something sugary to bring my blood sugar back up to a normal level! Xrs shot around the shop! and got me some lucozade, my blood sugar has gone up to 4.1 at the minute,
that was really weird never felt like that before!
is that something that is normal?,

hi sandymaynard

seems like you do feel has though you were going hypo which is a good thing. Had similar experience a few weeks ago tiling the bathroom.

You must remember that the meters are not spot on, think they can be out by 10%, best thing to do is keep some energy tablets in the house and take 2 if you feel a hypo coming on, if after 10 mins you dont feel any better, take another 2.

Mine dropped down to 2.7 which is the lowest I've ever known it. Didn't feel it coming on because i went hypo the day before. My diabetic nurse says that sometime this can happen because it takes the body 24 - 36 hours to completely recover from a hypo and worringly says that when hypo it can kill off some brain cells (gulp)

hope this clears things up a little

I have never experenced that before it was scary stuff! i have not been diagoised yet hopefully tomorrow will tell all! but have to wait until 3 to find out,
thankyou for that info, the energy pills, are those called dextrose pills or soething like that? don't want to come over as stupid but unsure of the name!

hya sandy there are many different names/brands,
gluco tabs, lucozade tabs, dextrose tabs :D

I can do that if I overexert myself in the afternoon. Overexerting myself in the morning may send me high instead.

In both cases I find it best to have a high protein low carb breakfast and adjust my BG with small quantities of carb with fat, like oatcakes with nut butter or cheese, before and during the exertion.

Over time I've become a lot more predictable and less variable in my response as I've gotten used to running on ketones, but I'll be testing a fair bit once I get my power tools out ready to hit the garden.

That is something i fear, i like gardening, i fear that by using the lawn mower and plants plants etc, i will put myself at risk!
i am scared because i know that this is a big change to make, and it will also affect my fiancee what ever happens. I don't want to become a burden.

why have fat. you do know fat slows down the absorption rate of the carbs or is that what you want to achieve

yes, I want to keep a low level of glucose trickling in, just enough and no more, and remain on the edge of ketosis where I am actually running off the fat as an energy source. Manually getting my BG up around 6 before starting seems to work, I can then drop down to around 4 with no problems. If I start with BG too low I may either shoot up high (liver dump) or drop to a symptomatic level. YMMV. Also my MMV over time, wth the insulin resistance much reduced I am less unstable
