I have been on my pump a month & just out of hospital because of a bug since getting home my ketones have been 0.2 to 0.8 can't get them any lower than 0.2 worried I can't get them down I drinking loads of water eating & if I stop drinking for 1hr they just shoot up ! Anyone have any idea why this is happening ? Even when BM is 4.6 ketones still present ?

Hia - I'm fairly new to a pump too and ended up in hospital after the first week with ketones. I'm much better informed now and you seem to be dong the right thing in testing and drinking plenty water. I have a little chart with my ketone meter and it says that 0.0 to 0.06 in the normal range so I'm to not sure if you need to worry about 0.2 as I think this is normal?? My DSN tells me to test for Keynes if I'm feelng unwell (even if BSs are fine). Have you been feeling under the weather at all? I was stressed one afternoon in work and it made me BSs shoot up and I had ketones. Extra bonus with a 5g biscuit, water and taking it easy and it corrected itself within 4 hours.

I wouldn't worry too much about those levels but do keep testing and keeping an eye on the ketones. Keep doing as you are by drinking plenty of fluids and make sure you eat some carbs and cover them with your insulin, correct any high readings that you get. It could just be the tail end of your illness causing ketones to show up. I have linked an advice page below which states that ketones between 0.1 and 1.0 are within a normal range (see page 5).
