As a low carber looking to lose a significant amount of weight should I be aiming to go into ketosis or not? I'm not totally excluding carbs just sticking to fibrous veg as my main source, some nuts and the odd oatcake. Is ketosis bad for us Type 2s?

Hi Doczoc,
Ketosis is a natural by-product of the body burning fat to use as energy. It is perfectly normal and not something to worry about. Many people (and a few HPs) get ketosis confused with ketoacidosis, which is a very different thing and can be fatal.

In order to lose weight you will need to ensure that you consume less calories than your body will need. In that way the body has to get its energy from an alternative source, so it consumes the fat. This breakdown of fat creates ketones in the blood. Basically if you ain't got ketones then you ain't getting rid of the fat!
