:? I have just heard today that I have not got type 2 diabetes as thought since last September but LADA type 1.5.
Has anyone else been diagnosed same??
I would love to read any helpful bits of information, useful resources to give some insight. I will see my specialist in March but am trying to get wise now!
It's great to have this wonderful forum for support.
Cheers and thanks

Type of diabetes
Type 2
Treatment type
Diet only
This seems to be what my husband has got - though at the clinic yesterday they just kept saying type 1.

He went to the drs on Monday last week - blood glucose of 20 and the dr said type 2 diabetes. He had a fasting sugar done on Tuesday (19) and then went back to the drs on Wednesday morning. THey found ketones in his urine then and it was an emergency hospital admission and onto an insulin pump and a drip for 5 litres of saline.

He's home now on insulin. 1 slow release and 3 lots of novorapid with meals.

Hi annieyeo52!

Just like you, I was initially diagnosed with T2, and struggled for 15 months. Just before Christmas, by very devious means, I managed to get to see an endocrinologist, who told me that I in fact, I have LADA and started me on insulin immediately. Her diagnoses was confirmed by a blood test, as I still had the GAD antibodies.

Since then, she has said that LADA is just a label, and that in terms of treatment, it should be thought of as T1 diabetes.

Good luck with getting your BG under control - I'm still finding it very difficult to 'hold steady', but hope I'll get there in the end.

I am just as confused by this web page as I am by my diabetes...
Wanted to say thanks to Melanie for her reply and hope that all with LADA are coping. So many differing treatments are evident. I am not on insulin.. just Metformin and Actos ...stopped the Glic as hypos were arriving. Diet and exercise are working for me...sugars are well behaved just now but also have to focus on Cholesterol levels but am resisting statins... exercise must be better than tablets...even with a knee replacement and arthritis.
Wondering if there is a conference/ meeting anywhere...might be helpful to gather together.

Keep going folks
Cheers
Annie
