LEVEMIR split 3 ways?

been posting about my mum...taking alot of insulin (200u+ daily) and still can't get on top of her levels. she already split her levemir am/pm anyway but accidentally took 40u at lunchtime the other day instead of her novorapid. she took novorapid aswell, and reduced her usual dose of 70u (lev) in the evening to 40u. she reckons this helped the following day's readings

she has been trialling splitting her levemir 40/40/40 morning/noon/night respectively.

she thinks this is helping her control her BS, could this be a fluke? or is levemir running out for her earlier than 18 hrs? or is it just that she is having more over 24 hrs (120u instead of 110u) anyone got any ideas? anyone else split background 3 ways?

Hi Weezer

Many things 'can go' where insulin is concerned. If your mum is ok with injecting Levemir every 8hrs and feels that her bg levels are better controlled than using it twice daily, then so be it. She will need to test a bit more though and also might have to adjust her bolus doses and use a different ratio but the deciding factor with everything is what her bg levels do throughout the day.

I think there's a few other posters that use basal insulin 3 times a day so maybe they will see your thread and let you know how they are getting on.
