I recently split my leveimir dose and though my results have improved i still find it unpredicable at times. I do my morning injection at 8am but find that i am low throughout the morning but it rises early evening. (i am quite sure that my Novorapid /food balance is correct)
the 2 questions i would like to ask are:-
1) Has anyone had the experiance or been helped by injecting Levimir THREEE times a day to maintain more constant control?
2) For years i would inject 30 units 'ONCE' a day.......now that i split my total Levimir is approx 45units (18 a.m / 28 p.m) a 50% increase!! while i appreciate all our needs are different does anyone think this is TOO much of an increase??....Any advice gratefully received

Hi LWA

Firstly, it's normal to need more Levemir than Lantus. Before you start to think about adjusting your doses, what is your bg level when you wake up in the morning?

Are you going low mid morning or just before lunch? What are your bg levels mid morning? Do you eat just 3 meals per day or do you eat a snack in between meals?

I have snacks mid morning it's just that i seem to have to eat too much at this time....yet early evening i will go high even though i am quite sure my Novorapid/food balance is correct

How about you altering your breakfast carb ratio so that your bg levels are a tiny bit higher mid morning. You then won't have to eat too much of a snack if you feel that you are eating too much. Afternoon -depending on what your bg levels are, you could eat less carb as a snack and then your bg levels won't be too high evening.

It's not easy getting insulin to do what we want, when we want. Usually manipulation of carb does the trick but it's a 'suck it and see' approach.
