Im taking 84 units of levimir at night with no other drugs, is this dosage too high? should i be using metformin? i usually sit at 6 for my blood sugar in morning but have no real control after breakjfast tea dinner even when talking large doses of novo rapid.

Are you on levimir and Novorapid? I wasn't sure from your question. To be honest, I think that you actually need to get some help from someone who can sit down with you and look at your results, as it very difficult to help with such little information. Generally, if your control is out of whack during the day, you should adjust your novorapid accordingly, and perhaps take an additional does of levimir in the morning...from what you have said, I think that you need a bit of a rethink medication wise, rathjer than just a tweak. Without knowing more, I doubt any of us can help, sorry!

Can't help except that does seem a lot.

Hi Squirrel, I assume from the amount of levimir that you say you are taking, that you are type 2? Levimir dosage is very weight dependent, may I ask what you weigh? If you were type 1 the best way to check if you are on the correct dosage is to fast for at least 10 hrs and keep well hydrated, the best time to try this is over a weekend when you don't have to work.

If you try it take your bg several hrs after your last meal, say if your last meal was 5pm, check your bg before going to bed, make sure you are well hydrated with plenty of water before sleeping. take your normal dosage of levimir, when you get up in the morning check your bg again, and do not eat breakfast, take it again at ten hours, by this time all the glucose will have gone out of your system and if you are taking the correct dosage your bg reading will be around the same as you had before sleeping, if you have taken too much your bg will be lower, if not enough it will be higher. Just adjust up or down next time.

hi, yes im type 2 on novarapid and levimir and weigh about 12stone 5lb, i get up with readings of 6 but if i have two slice of toast for breakfast and take my bg about 4 hours later i can then be sitting around 10 this is after talking 8u novorapid, seems to me like the novo rapid is not working good, i can have 25u novorapid after tea and still be sitting around 14 before bed. I never used to be as bad as this, cant take any more levimir as this makes me go low through night.

Hi,
Well, I am type 1...so not totally sure whether this is relevant, but thought I would let you know what I do...sometimes finding out hwat others do helps! As I have said, I am type 1, and weigh about 9st 5. I have 8 units of levimir before bed, and then I have 10 units when I get up in the morning....and then 3 doses of novorapis, which I alter to suit what I have eaten, but typically around 6, 8 and 8 units. I found that the my levimor woudl run out too quickly, so splitting the dose helps. It has helped my control no end...but doesn't work for everyone. Of course, the amount of insulins we need depends on our bodies, diet, exercise etc....but maybe it would be worth looking at the pattern of your insulin doses? Probably worth doing it with the advice of your Dr...I feel a bit of a fraud replying to a post in teh "Ask the Experts" section!

I'm T2 on Metformin only, but there's no way i could get away with eatinh 2 slices of toast. Other thsan a Very low-carb bread.
What ddo you eat in a typical day?

hi, i split me dose of levimir in half 4 days ago but im now getting up with readings of 12, its three months before i get back to dieabetic clinic but have visited the doctor, she does not want to change anything until she get my blood results and speaks to clinic.
