I just feel like what's the point!?!? I try hard to get my sugars under control but nothing works!!!!! Bg of 12 when i got up, had 30g of carb for breakfast and put in 5 units and my sugars were 17 2 hours later. This is happening a lot, what's the point when nothing I do seems to bring my levels down!? I HATE HATE HATE diabetes, I just want one day off :(

Wow, that is high, maybe the 30 amount of carbs didn't help, what did you have for breakfast and what are your correction doses? I do understand how you feel though, my teenager knows when I'm a bit of a bad mood with diabetes !! Or maybe you are coming down with something, or did you have a drink last night or a big carby meal ?? How are you feeling ?

Best wishes RRB

I feel fine just peed off!!!! I put 3 units in of novorapid and half an hour later it was 18. I don't abuse my body with drink drugs or ****** food and I'm worried about the consequences in the future!!!!

Hello there,

Not too sure how long you've been type 1 but I have been on insulin for 33 years.

I do not abuse what I eat but fundamentally I eat what I like. Over the years I have amassed a great deal of knowledge of roughly how much insulin I need for the meal I am eating. I do not go too overboard on how much or how little carbs I eat. I tend to judge my insulin by the actual meal or snack I am having.

My highest HBA during the past 5/6 years has been 7.5 and my best was 6.7 (not sure what that is in the new readings but its not bad)

I went out a few days back for a meal out and would normally have 14/16 units of novorapid but as I had a starter, a main and also a pudding I injected 20 units. My levels before I went to bed were good. I have controlled my diabetes like this now for about 6 or so years and even my consultant has told me to continue doing as I am. There was a sign in the hospital that stuck with me, it simply said "know your diabetes better than your Dr" Mind you I do have 33 years experience that helps me do this.

It does sound though that you may need to look at your basal dosage as a couple of others have stated.

It is an awful illness but try not to let it get you down. Use your own knowledge. If I have a fry up once a week I will inject 8/10 units of novorapid opposed to the normal 4/6 I would take if I was having cereal and a piece of toast. Sometimes I will inject 5 times a day instead of 4.

I have a cold at the moment and I am giving myself 2/4 units more of novorapid before I eat to keep my levels close to what they need to be.

Not sure if this helps in any way but use the fact that you live with it daily to your advantage. I used to abuse my body for 20 years but i have been sober now for 11 and although I have some complications my diabetes control is as good as I think it can be.

Experiment but be careful obviously.

why can't everyone get on........
hi Miss90

first -- have a good scream about how unfair it is ( we have all felt like you believe me ) i have been T1 for 42 years

once you feel you are ready to continue reading.............
we will all try and support you to get this sorted.:)

getting basal insulin sorted is first priority -- do you take lantus or levemir ? how much ? single dose or split dose ?
pick your next available day off from work and do a basal test - noblehead has kindly left a link above.
this may be a few days or a week away but remember it is 1 day at a time right now while we get back to control.

ok - so once you know what your basal is doing for you in the background we need to look at bolus doses and correction doses.

have you been on a carb counting course ?? if yes -- what are your ratios for 10 carbs ? are you aware they can vary during the day ?
if no to a carb counting course get in touch with your diabetic specialist nurse to get on one asap.

as for corrections I work as follows below 12 - 1 unit correction to lower BG by 2 mmol , above 12 1 unit to lower BG by 3 mmol.

keep posting too - we all feel for you. [hug]

I've had that too, took Insulin and it's gone up, did all the usual things, but it is so frustrating:eek:. I really hope you can get it down to a good level. What about injection sites, have you tried a different area on your body to inject ? ps I'm sure you are not abusing your body, just a thought on alcohol and higher carbs foods or something out of the ordinary:wideyed:. Good luck.

All the best RRB :)
