Long term use of metformin and arterial narrowing

Dale k

Newbie
Any advice welcome on above. I have just come out of hospital having had what was severe lack of breath caused by bad cholesterol narrowing my artery.

Unrelated is there a case of asking my gp to take me off metformin, been on it for 12 years, and going on to something else? Long term use reduced B12 intake, and recent chat with a doctor said they were happy I had been in it for so long!

Welcome to the forum @Dale k . Sorry to hear you have been in hospital, I hope you’re recovering well.
I took Metformin for six years without problems but swapped to GLP 1 meds a couple of years ago, to help with weight control as well as blood sugars. If you supplement your vitamin B12 is there a need for changing your Metformin? Is it keeping your blood sugars at a good level?

When I'd had enough of Metformin I didn't ask for permission.
I did some research and decided to stop it.
Since then I've done what I have to do through diet and that means I've actually added more foods than I've removed and I'm doing pretty good.
Same with Statins I did some research and ditched it.
It was replaced by spices and EVOO and again I'm doing pretty good.
Most of us don't need all this industrial medicine but I'm not telling anyone what to do or how to do it.
Do what you think is best for you.
I have a great GP and he's been very supportive of my decisions and keeps an eye on me.
I'm on a very strong opiate have been for about five years now.
About three years back I decided I wanted to stop taking it so had a word with the prescriber at the pain clinic.
I told him what I wanted to do and said but I might come back asking to go back on it are you ok with that?
He said yes lets see what happens.
I managed to stay off this stuff for about three months and asked for the prescription to be reinstated and it was and all was well.
I think I'm probably lucky in having medics who listen advise and give me a chance.
