Hi and welcome. This is very unusual and I think you need to see the GP to have some investigation carried out. I have heard of a few others having excess insulin production and the cause needs to be determined; sorry I can't help further.

You may like to read up on a condition called reactive hypoglycemia.

As a test try comparing how your glucose changes after you have a high carb meal with how it changed after a low carb meal.

Do you end up going lower after a high carb meal?

Despite mentioning the above possibility, you will appreciate that we are neither qualified nor trained to make any kind of diagnosis, particularly over the net.

It is just something to look into and perhaps mention to your GP.

All the best

Hi @danben,
I have late reactive hypoglycaemia, I can see by your symptoms that you do have a form of hypoglycaemia. Which one, I'm not to sure.
If you will have a look at the thread - please can we have a forum on reactive hypoglycaemia. @Brunneria will give you the link.
In the meantime do not eat high of medium carbs or anything sugary because that's the stimulus for the extra insulin and that triggers the hypos.
Eat every two to three hours have small meals. Drink plenty of water. If you hypo don't have anything that will start it over again. Black tea or coffee and a plain biscuit will slowly raise your bloods.
If you think your out of control fast for anything up to a day only drinking water. This will stabilise your blood glucose levels and stop the extra insulin.
You do need to see your GP. Ask him for a referral to see an endocrinologist.
Please read up on hypoglycaemia. Google it on Wikipedia as it's up to date. Come back and ask questions.
Nosher.

it does go up after eating carbs but comes down way to fast and the odd time its just gone down after a meal but most of the time it does go up but will not stay up very long i eat at 14.00 the reading was 5.8. by 15.29 it was down to 4.3 if i wanted say one more hour is that it would be 4 or less. i did read about reactive hypoglycemia yes. when it gets into the 4 range i go pale and very cold. so after the meal i get the carbs in the blood but something it taken them away far to fast

Your extra insulin produces more glucagon which is glucose. A form of sugar. You drink more because that is an unfortunate symptom of fluctuating bloods. Therefore extra insulin extra toilet time.
It does get to you. And it is understandable that you feel the way you do as expressed in your post. That's another symptom. And there are plenty more as you read up, you will see that some will apply to you.
Keep posting and ask away if you are not certain or if you can't understand it because of your reading problems.

Some low GI food will also spike you then you have a hypo. These I would avoid, these include wheat, rice, pasta, spuds, other grain products such as oats and barley, batter etc anything with carbs and sugars. There are very good recipes on the forum.

Been there, done it, had it and felt the same way. This is what hypos do to you.
Stop eating.
You say your body can't cope with food, then stop feeding it, you have hunger symptoms your mooching, lock up your cupboard. Just stop, if you really have to eat, a piece of meat or a couple of berries or nuts.
If you feel that bad, go to A&E and tell them you have hypos all the time, I had to when my docs kept saying it was diabetes and it wasn't.

Diet drinks - the artificial sweeteners taste vile.
Having to forswear foods I have loved all my life.
Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
Have you tried eating lots of protein and fats?
Perhaps eggs scrambled in butter is an easy way to start.
As others have said, if eating carbohydrates is pushing your BG down the best thing is not to eat carbohydrates.
The more you eat carbs the worse you get.

It is hard to grasp, but if you eat protein and fats you will still get energy, and your body will still make glucose, but it will be a much slower process.
Also, fats help to reduce insulin production.

Listen to Nosher - he knows what it is like!

So eat a plain biscuit and a cup of tea? Then at meal times eat meat, fish, eggs, cheese, above ground vegetables, good fats, salads, and a good old fry up without bread, with meals little but often..

A non-diabetic will spike at about an hour to an hour and a half, and be back down to base at 2 hours to 2 and a half hours, depending what they ate.

It doesn't happen quickly. You do need to stabilise and then fast. The way they stopped my symptoms and the first time I felt 'normal' was when I fasted for 72 hours. You don't need food. You can survive without food for quite a few days as long as sip water regularly.
If you feel out of control go to A&E.
It was my specialist who discovered my condition. It was he who said after two days fasting. That I looked healthier and better than before fasting.
Please look after yourself.
If you can't fast eat something very small and often. No carbs.

You are a normal person!
You have a condition that probably isn't diabetic. I'm not!
My bloods at fasting are between 4-6 mmol. I don't want to spike after eating so I don't eat anything that spikes me. So I stay in control , between 4&6mmol, si don't hypo and I feel great and have a lot more energy, better sleep pattern, no mood swings etc.

If I did and I have spiked my spike is high and the reaction is slower than yours then I hypo after about 4 hours.

I do have meds to help me but they will have to be prescription drugs, no over the counter stuff!

If you are sick and fed up with with feeling **** after eating than stop!
