Hi everyone. I was diagnosed type 2 eighteen months ago. Was given metformin which really caused me problems. Then did diet for six months successfully. Last test showed higher sugar so was given gliclazade. Did not suit. Had serious lows. Have now been on diet again but I know I am not controlling it. I am not overweight and run every morning. Doctor says it can't be helped in my case. What medication is left to me. I am going tomorrow for the results of my last test and am really worried. Oh and I am vegan. Thanks for any info.

Acceptance of health treatment claims that are not adequately supported by evidence. I dislike it when people sell ineffective and even harmful alternative health products to exploit the desperation of people with chronic illness.
Did you try the slow release version of metformin? Many people find that better.

A LCHF diet should help, whether you are on meds or not. I don't know what other meds are left to you, there are probably a few. If you feel your doctor is not on top of things, ask for a referral to a diabetes specialist. There are other kinds of diabetes, such as LADA and MODY, and if you have either of these, then that could explain difficulty controlling your blood sugars, if you are doing everything you can with diet and exercise. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi. What was the 'higher sugar' that you were recorded with? And what was your gliclazide dose? If you are MODY then sulfonylureas like gliclazide can have a powerful effect - did you discuss with your GP about varying size and time of dosage? I am MODY and it took me a while to get the dosage right and I had my share of hypos, but things are pretty stable now.

Hi. Sorry to have taken so long to reply but only got new tablets yesterday. Have been give Glimepiride 1 mg to be taken after substantial breakfast. May suit as I don't eat breakfast early. I know nothing about it and have just taken my first one this morning. Fingers crossed.

Keep an eye on the risk of hypos. Good luck with this med.
