Metformin, a windy question

Hello

I tried to see if anyone else had asked this question before, but when I searched for metformin, it brought up pages and pages, so please forgive me if this has been asked before.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 4 weeks ago and started on metformin 2 weeks ago, I am up to 2 tablets per day now, and seem to have no real problems in the morning with my porridge, but when I have my evening one I blow up like Violet from Charlie and the Chocolate factory. In fact I look like I'm just about to give birth. Is there any was to assist the urrm wind in its journey, I have tried peppermint tea and that doesnt do much.

Thank you in advance for any answers

I don't know how you move it on any but wind is a big side effect of metformin. You could ask to try the long acting version which tends to be better tolerated.

pop it ether goes up or down its helped me im on 4 met a day now i get the winds bad i have pepsi max no sugar its realy gassy try it

Some people find not eating carbs at the same time as the met may help, many as Katherine says do better with the XR/SR version. Sometimes the effect wears off over time but recurs when you increase the dose, might be worth backing off and seeing if things improve, then increasing the dose back again when you are less noisy (its nickname is metfartin)

Thank you, I'm trying to reduce my carbs anyway, so I will lower them some more. I was suposed to be up to 3 x 500mg by today but I will stick at the one with breakfast and one with tea for now. The wind seems to be moving more now, as I now have the runs. Hey ho, hopefully it will all settle down with time.

Being as several of us refer to metformin as metfartin, you will find that you're not alone!!!

I get swollen abdomen if I abuse carbs, but whether that has anything to do with metfartin is questionable

All the best and welcome, Je mxox
