Self absorbed and rude people! Motorists who are oblivious to the rest of the world, and really don't give a ****!
I asked if anyone knew about this as a 'treatment' some weeks back, but most people who responded didn't really know. I am interested in finding out more. There are books, but I am wondering about courses? I have T2 and go through periods of poor sleep and feel like the living dead at these times. It is a complicated illness with so many potential side effects and can get one down at times especially as others do not understand. Don't get me wrong most of the time I rain upbeat and positive. My husband has a much worse long term illness and I know I shouldn't let DB get me down, but even he has little understanding of why I cannot get up and get going as soon as my feet hit the ground and that I have days when everything takes so much effort. If I cannot change others opinions then I think changing my own through some thing ljke mindfulness would benefit us all :)

Sorry but Ive never heard of "mindfulness" in terms of a treatment till I googled it,,,,,,although I do have some small knowledge of meditation and relaxation techniques which are easy to learn, I was first introduced to its effects following a back pain rehab clinic and since by reading about Buddhist meditation techniques.

As for bad sleep patterns though I have first hand knowledge as for several years I never ever slept for longer than 1 to 2 hours at a time due to my sciatic type leg pain, and although the pains were not bad due to strong pain relief they were enough to disrupt my sleep and as a result I got used to this disruptive sleep pattern even when I was not in any pain at all.

My doctor prescribed me a months supply of sleeping pills although as I already use opiates for pain relief I was reluctant to take other meds that could be addictive, My doc reassured me saying he would probably not have offered them if he thought I would use them long term but he said that by using them for a few weeks to a month I could re set my body clock back to a better sleep pattern.

The first course did nothing and as soon as I stopped I returned to my previous pattern of sleep so my doctor prescribed a second course with a higher dose of the drug (cant remember what it was) and when I stopped taking them after a month I saw a big improvement in my sleep pattern, its still not perfect by any means but I do get between 2 to 3 or even 4 hours on occasions between waking which leaves me feeling much more rested in the mornings now. Its amazing what an hour or two of good sleep can do for you.

This may or may not be an idea for you to consider but it did help me so might be worth investigation along with meditation and relaxation techniques.

I've found mindfulness very useful. I know you asked about courses, but I would recommend the book by Drs Mark Williams and Danny Penman https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mindfulness-practical-guide-finding-frantic/dp/074995308X, which has a DVD of guided meditations. You can also download the meditations: http://franticworld.com/free-meditations-from-mindfulness/
My favourite book on the subject is still The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh.
For courses, I'm told some GPs will refer you to a mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy (MCBT) course for depression on the NHS, though I don't have any personal experience. And there are plenty if you're willing to pay, of course, but you'd need to find someone to recommend which ones actually work.

Hi! I have not been here long so have just come upon your thread. I have done quite a lot of meditations and find that guided meditation can be a real boon. Books are ok but I find that Youtube is a great place for most info. You can sit at your computer. And learn how to. Try a few meditation not all are great, but do have a go. Good Luck:happy:
